tonight on Rob Kall Radio'    Bottom Up New Media and Different Perspectives on Iran

First half of the show was a fascinating discussion of the hot, emerging field of NEW MEDIA in  A talk with Micah Sifry, co-organizer of the Personal Democracy Forum, the conference I'll be attending and covering next week. Micah says it is so new and so open that anyone can get in it and find a job and discusses how to get started.

Click here to listen to the show or download it.  Check out details on it below. Micah is also a founder of  Techpresident.com where some of the most fascinating conversations on the role of technology and politics take place.

The second half of the show will be a discussion on Iran with folks taking two different points of view-- Sadeghian for the revolution and the courageous protesters and Lendman for keeping the US the Ef out of interfering with other governments.

Abbas Sadeghian who wrote, Iranian Political Evolution; From Dictatorship to Corruption to Revolution will be on with Stephen Lendman  who wrote  Iran's Election and US - Iranian Elections

One or two passes available to a lucky OEN member/supporter

Next week, I'll be attending the Personal Democracy Forum, my second year attending. I am really looking forward to it because there's really no other place where the new media is discussed, explored, analyzed and understood. The conference, which takes place in an extraordinarily cordial venue in NYC, brings together an incredible collection of leaders in new media thinking-- media leaders from conventional print, net digerati like the web campaign managers from all the major presidential primary campaigns, writers like Jonathan Alter, Arrianna Huffington, founders of sites like meetup, craigslist, actblue, and visionaries in the future of the web and the media, like Jeff Jarvis, Clay Shirkey, Douglas Rushkoff, Vint Cerf,  Seth Godin, Lawrence Lessig, Esther Dyson, Yochai Benkler, and then there are the bloggers/digital media leaders like Josh Marshall and Jane Hamsher. Other figures include Van Jones,  Thomas Friedman, Tracy Russo, Elizabeth Edwards, Joe Trippi...

Last year, I had a chance to chat with a lot of these same people. They're accessible. OEN has established an arrangement with the conference. We'll be listed as sponsors in exchange for sending out this announcement, and I'll be publishing something like this too. That's a quid pro quo that's easy to do because my recommendation comes from the heart and head. I enjoyed the conference and was intellectually stimulated by it, enough so that it was totally worth my investment of time and money to attend.

Here's a bit more that the conference folks put together at my request. I agree with it all wholeheartedly and hope to see you there. Drop me an email if you want to attend.

We have two free passes for the conference. Tell us why we should give one of them to you. Contributions and volunteering count as good reasons, but will not be the only factor considered.

The Personal Democracy Forum (PdF) is being held June 29 and 30 at Lincoln Center Jazz Frederick P. Rose Hall and OpEdNews has arranged a special deal for you to attend. Read on.

The theme of this year's conference is WE.gov and the focus is on how the enthusiasm in the use of the internet during the 2008 elections is now spilling into government and civic engagement.  They expect over 1,000 people in attendance and they include professionals from the political, not-for-profit, and journalistic worlds.

They have an amazing array of speakers lined up for this year, including Frank Rich from the New York Times, Nate Silver from 538.com, Vivek Kundra ? the White House CIO, the authors Clay Shirky and Jeff Jarvis, Craig Newmark from Craigslist, Randy Zuckrberg from Facebook, Joe Rospers ? new media director of the Obama campaign, NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, and many others including some surprise guests. You can find out more here:

We highly recommend your participation at this year's event because so many of the sessions are about subjects you will find interesting professionally and personally.

Among the topics being discussed are:

- State-of-the-art online politics

- Designing .gov for participation

- Twitter as a platform for organizing and fundraising

- The future of political journalism, blogging and network media

- How to use online video for political advocacy

- The rise of mobile politicking

- Rethinking media campaigns and organizations from the ground up

The conference schedule can be seen here: http://personaldemocracy.com/pdf-2009-schedule

The rate of registration is only a fraction of what other high quality technology conferences cost, and OpEdNews has arranged  an additional discount with $100 off their already low "Early Bird" rate if you use the code: "OpEdNews" in the registration process.

In addition, attendees of the conference are being offered one year free membership in the PdF network, which is a new service we launched to give our community year-round access to the same high quality content and people who speak at our event.
