The recent crisis in the financial markets and the home foreclosure rates has prompted many Americans to take a look at their finances closely. But the real problem is not your finances but how our nation's economy is constructed.

A simplified model is that America is one large shopping mall and everybody in America works at the mall and can only shop at the mall. The problem, nothing for sale in the mall is made in the mall but is brought to the mall from outside source. This keeps the price down until we have bought everything in the mall once or twice. So where's the problem?

Being that our earnings are limited by being a mall worker when the mall is in trouble we have no fall back to earn income, no other place to work. Other words we do not manufacture anything and are at the mercy of the mall owners, suppliers and their pricing structure.

When America gave away our manufacturing to gain profit for investors we doomed ourselves to economic collapse because the wealth of a nation is in its ability to be self stainable without outside influence. In Iraq we were at the mercy of a Swiss firm that made the electronic boards for our machines leaving them useless in combat. This Christmas the toys for our children were poisonous and try to find one in America that is not.

In the 70's we knew we could fall pray to oil shortages yet we continued to consume oil like the dinosaurs would die all over again to fuel our SUV's. With handing the oil keys of the kingdom to strangers we also opened ourselves up to the world mess that we have right now.

We have to secure the oil regions because if we did not our economy would collapse. The only real industry that we have is the Industrial Military Complex and Eisenhower warned us about them, yet it is our only means of financial survival, the slaughter of other human beings.

It has also left us more open to terrorist attack than you think. Terrorists do not have to ram planes into buildings now, just cut off our oil supply, poison our toys, and they can more than likely still walk across our borders and ports without so much as a look to become the annoying people that fill our customer service ranks. It was Nikita Khrushchev who said: "We don't need to go to war with America. America will destroy itself from within" and we are fulfilling his prophecy everyday.

The key to the long term survival of this country is bring our manufacturing jobs back home. While costs will skyrocket, they will bottom out and we will be able to work for and pay for the things we made and not be at the mercy of someone who may or may not like us this week. The other choice, 100 year after 100 year war to protect the raw materials and suppliers we need. Choice is yours.
