WOULD YOU CHANGE?

Tell A Friend

If you knew this was your last day on earth, would you change?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO7foZE8Sm8

That is something we all need to ask ourselves and be honest with the answer. What will it take to make us change?

What would we have to give up to change? Why should we change? Will change make a real difference?

I'm a person that believes in the power of the people and what we can achieve if we're on the same wavelength. I believe if we all got together and prayed for something we really wanted, we could get it. I believe we are all connected mentally to make good things happen. I believe it's all "mind over matter" in this world and that with our minds, we can do things that matter.

But we must realize that as much good there is among us, there is the same amount of bad.

We have suffered for many years in this country even though all of us have not suffered. The little people, the peons, the non-wealthy, the unhealthy, the weak, disabled, physically challenged, and the ignorant or uneducated people are the ones who have suffered the most. They are the ones that everybody else can throw away and totally discard for their own immediate comforts. People who have nothing in this country will always be without because those with something could care less about them.

People who have been educated to make good money don't care about those who have not, and it doesn't matter why they have not sought the education needed to survive. Ignorant and poor people are deemed lazy, and unworthy of consideration. But unless you can walk a mile in another man's shoes, you cannot possibly understand why he is where he is at that particular moment.

If you believe in anything other than yourself, you must believe there is a superior power somewhere that has made all of this possible in the first place. I know a lot of people do not believe in God and are in essence Godless, like Anne Coulter for instance.

But those of us who feel there is something mightier than we, the people, feel that there is a purpose to it all. I feel the purpose is for us to "love one another" and "do for one another" like we would do for our families because we are all one big family anyway. If we could love the guy hunkered down in a corner under a bridge, cold, hungry, and stinking, we could change our world. How wonderful it would make me feel to be able to get that man up, bring him home to a nice warm shower, clean clothing, set him down to a table for a full complete meal, and let him relax in an easy chair just for one night. How blessed I would feel. Then I would talk with him and see what it is he likes to do or is good at doing, and help him find that thing that God gave him for survival sake and get him situated in making a living for himself.

That, to me, is a neighbor, a friend, a child of God. If I ever won a lottery, I know that's what I would do with it -- find the lost souls who need compassion and the necessities of life in order to move forward.

Until we can find that within ourselves to help each other, we will all essentially be lost souls. And we need not be. We should automatically feel for someone who are in dire need. But with the boob tube ruling our lives, we have become so desensitized and incompassionate, inconsiderate,  selfish and drawn within ourselves like nobody else exists, that we can't really see for looking anymore.

God loves us. I only wish we could love each other as much. Please click the link above and feel something! We are not automatons yet, so we should have feelings left. Let's find them and use them, please!

Your sister in love!

You had me.. up until I clicked on the video

I understand Barack Obama seems like a good man and very well might be. I understand that a Democrat can look like a saint compared to Bush or 100-year McCain. And I understand that it is certainly a positive sign that so many caring people in this country can be enthused and inspired about making a difference.

But do you really expect me to believe that corporate-funded, media-loved, DC-backed Barack Obama is the savior of this great land? He refers to America as the "homeland" just like all of the other criminals. I had never heard that word in reference to the US before 2001. I wonder what changed.

I am one of the well-educated, arrogant, over-privileged, white men who have since tried to change for the better. I am not trying to screw anyone out their dreams. I just want people to fully understand that the 2-party system is a scam and as long as people keep buying into it, nothing will ever change.

I do appreciate the effort, though, and hope you continue to fight for justice and goodness after the election changes nothing for the better.

Hi Kyle,

I'm sorry you let something like a person to change your complete thoughts. When I first played the video, I thought it was beautiful, that's all. If you think it's just an Obamamania video, then I feel for you. The point that got across to me was that we can MAKE A CHANGE. That's what I got out of it without even connecting it to a specific person. I am my own person with my own heart and I DO have a heart. I can feel for people who are misled into different agendas when the main one is "caring for each other" - that's all! And that's what I was trying to get across. It's a shame that that little bit of irony got past you. What a shame!

Thank you for your comments anyway.

Ahh Celine!

:-) I really do like what you have to say. In my last article, I even linked to one of your diary entries. I think it is just the vehicles of Barack and Celine to whom I am a bit opposed. They might just be too mainstream for my taste.

But to be constructive, I will share some of my recent favorites:

Ben Harper - Burn One Down

Gorillaz -  Demon Days

Jose Gonzalez - Teardrop

All three are great artists - their work is phenomenal.

In any event, thanks for responding to my comment. I do have hope for this country, but it does not lie in any politician or singer. My hope is that concerned citizens like yourself will continue to break through and change our future for the better.

Take care.

How do you figure...?

"People who have been educated to make good money don't care about those who have not..."

Irresponsible statements like the one above are what contribute to the sense of inequality that seems to pervade this web site.

In 2003, the last year that statistics were compiled, U.S. charitable contributions (from non-governmental sources) were $240B USD, and the estimated total value of volunteer time for the same year was an additional $266.4B USD click here

According to the "Index on Global Philanthropy", which was last published in 2004, $71B USD in international donations were made by U.S. private charities, religious organizations, universities, corporations, foundations, and immigrants sending money home - click here .

Americans are among the most giving people in the world with regard to total monies contributed. Just using the money perspective alone with respect to your statement above, how do you figure that, ""People who have been educated to make good money don't care about those who have not..."?

With that said, the theme of the article is mostly enouraging but speaks to ideals that cannot exist with humanity in there absolute forms - because (ironically) we are human and imperfect.

Wrong type of giving!

What you are talking about is not the kind of "giving" I was trying to get over to people. I meant the "giving" of our hearts to one another, not disposable substances. That doesn't work. If we can FEEL for someone more than we can for ourselves, then and only then are we GIVING something that matters. It seems my point has taken on a mind of its own with people who can't see for looking. It doesn't take statistics or polls or government facts to tell me that we are lacking in compassion and empathy for one another. What you are talking about don't even scratch the surface of love. And you are the one person whom I would think would need it the most because you are fighting for your country. What I wouldn't do for a military person to help them get back on their feet and back into society as a normal human being. That is my joy and my description of LOVE!

When you find it, please give it to someone who needs it. Thank you for your comments.
