Iran 68, Iraq 26. Do You Know What I'm Talking About?

Iran has a population of 68 million, Iraq has a population of 26 million people. Does anyone really believe that once the United States leaves
Iraq that Iraq can defend itself from three warring factions within Iraq, and also deal with Iran?

Explain to me why it will be OK to have Iran run roughshod over Iraq once the United States leaves. Explain to me how getting rid of Saddam Hussein and HIS TWO SOCIOPATHIC RAPISTS SONS (both of whom would have carried onward the leadership of Iraq in an even more heinous and lethal manner than Saddam), while also protecting Iraq from Iran and a population 2.5 times greater than Iraq makes Mr. Bush one of the worlds most terrible people?

And if you respond to this editorial, please ADMIT as to whether or not you had researched the population of both countries and knew there was such a huge disparity in population between Iran and Iraq BEFORE you had formulated an opinion about the war in Iraq.

If Bush was wrong for invading Iraq, it was only because he did not have the ability to be as much of a menace as Saddam Hussein must have been to both keep three different religious sects in check within Iraq while also defending Iraq's border against Iran.

We have done so well In the Middle East

Explain to me sir   how long should we stay in Iraq. 5 more years 10 more years .How do we prevent this Iranian invasion from taking place? I think it is a little late to be worrying about the stability of this part of the world .We broke it big time. Yes George Bush did this for the oil and  when we leave someone else will go after it. You think Saudi Arabia will stand by and watch  Iran take over the country. We, the western world have been messing with the Middle east far too long and look how good it has gone. They will still sell the oil they both need the  money

I would welcome

I would welcome the concept that the Iraqi citizens come first, and under that strategy, Europe comes in to help Stabilize the region.  I believe that Mr. Bush, in looking to solve the problem, has decided that winning the war is the only way to solve the current problem.

I part ways there.

Winning at this point means not letting Iran flow in once our presence is diminished.  It appears that Mr. Bush's spirtuality revolves around believing that conviction and tenacity leads to victory, that may be true, but it's also wise to be creating new avenues of opportunity while following one's conviction.

We've had five years to accelerate alternative energy research and instead of doing that a lot that money has been accelerated into the business associates of Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush in Iraq and "rebuilding" Iraq.  Now it's time to grow up and do what will save the Iraqi people, while also reducing our reliance on foreign oil.

"Iran 68, Iraq 26. Do You Know What I'm Talking About?"

It is Alessandro Machi who does not know what he is talking about. He does know Iraq. He knows whatever he is allowed to know about Saddam and his sons by Western Media. Does he know about who created Saddam, who funded him, armed him and let him get away with murder? Yes, USA! Why? To get even with the Mullahs who toppled the US surrogate, Shah of Iran, who was a tyrant, killer and rapist worse than Saddam. For the Shah it was a 2nd toppling, the first being when he was deposed by a democratically elected Govt in Iran headed by Mossadegh. The US re-instated him at great cost, Oil and lives. Wasn't it the US Ambassador to Iraq who gave the green signal to Saddam to invade Kuwait?

Does Mr. Machi know that the 60% percent Shiites and 25% Sunni of the 26 million Iraqis there is not one family which has not intermarried across the sect divide?

Does Mr. Machi know that after the US turned its back on Saddam and got him thrown out of Iraq, it encouraged the Shiites in the South of Iraq and the Kurds in the North to revolt and make a bid for the toppling of Saddam through a secessionist rebellions armed and funded by the US? Does he also know that most of the atrocities committed against the Shiites and the Kurds by Saddam were an extreme form of subjugation of these rebellions? I request him to compare this Saddam subjugation to the US subjugation of similar rebellions in Fallujah and Diala and and and during 2003 - 2007 and then tell me what Saddam and his sons did which is worse than what the US has done to Iraq and Iraqis ever since the failed occupation of Kuwait. If Saddam dried up the Marshland in the Shiite South of Iraq, the US dried up the supply of food and medicine for more than a decade causing about a million recorded deaths, which Clinton's Madame Secretary of State, Madeline Albright was so proud of. If Saddam sprayed WMD gases on the Kurds, the US sprayed the same on the Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians thirty years earlier and showered the Iraqis with cruise missiles, cluster bombs, smart bombs and depleted uranium for two decades running.

Mr. Machi, the United States of America run by Oil, Arms and Israeli lobbies IS THE ONLY PROBLEM for the 68 and the 26 in this region. So, just pack up and leave. Don't feed us the crap of democracy and doomsday scenarios awaiting the region which would follow US withdrawal. the 68 and the 26 have lived side by side for milleniums, sometimes at war but mostly in peace. We do not need the US for anything. The US and their poodles and their kangaroos need not us but our Oil and your Mentors, the Israelis want Greater Israel between the Nile and the Euphrates. As you have yourself said, we will sell our Oil to you, because we need to sell it. If you do not want our Oil, there will always be others like China, Japan, India and the rest of the World who will buy our oil.

We do not know how to run our affairs? Well, does the US? We are horrific killers? Remember what the US did to the Injuns and the blacks and the Filippinos and the Mexicans and the Guatamalians and the Chilieans and and and! We are trying to establish a Caliphate? What then about the Rapture and the 2nd coming of Christ and what goes with it!

So, just shut up and get the hell out of our lands and our lives and take Israel with you, now!

Let me put this another way...

You fail to notice that I do not stand for anyone position or group, I go on a case by case basis. I am also intrigued that you are responding to this particular article well over a week after it had disappeared from Oped News front page, perhaps you found it on a sub category.

But irrespective of that, it appears that Iraq, and perhaps Iran, are incapable of PEACEFULLY PROTESTING their convictions.  In this day and age of the internet and instant news, holding PEACEFUL PROTESTS would do more to end the war than suicide bombings.  It appears that PEACEFUL PROTESTS are not being considered as a method for Iraq and Iraqi citizens to gain control of their country. It appears that PEACEFUL PROTESTS to show the world that Iraq and Iran are both in charge of their own destinies is not an option that has been considered.  Unless you want to make the argument that peaceful protests do happen but get ignored, in which case I would suggest Iraq and Iran do a better job of getting those types of PEACEFUL PROTESTS exposed to the media.

There is a LOT of LAND in the middle east, Israel has a VERY TINY portion of that land.  Yet other groups in the middle east will not peacefully sleep until Israel is vanquished.

In lambasting the United States in the way that you have, you fail to address the question that if a different country had been a super power over the past 100 years, would they have been a better behaved superpower than the United States has been?

This is the reverse argument to claiming that Saddam and Sons could not have been more benevolent for fear someone else would mistake their kindness for weakness.  The same argument could be made for whomever was the super-power over the past 100 years, several unnacceptable behaviors seem to go along with the role of being a super-power.  The difference is, why terrorize your own countrymen and women the way Saddam's sons were purported to have done?
