Rep. Janice Schakowsky, D-Illinois, says, "The reason for the surge was promoted by the president and by Gen. Petraeus as creating the space for political settlements in Iraq, which have not only not happened, but we've even seen steps backward,"

My Take
The most recent USA Today-Gallup poll finds that People feel the U.S. is not putting strong enough emphasis on finding political solutions in Iraq. I say we need to do the following: send Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and a few other non-republicans over to create a peace treaty between the warring factions in Iraq and to kick Halliburton and all of the mercenaries out of the country and the surrounding regions including Afghanistan. We should then bar American Oil companies from receiving ANY profits or royalties from Iraq oil and kick them out of the country as well.

I was in a restaurant in a very conservative college town recently, which is dominated by a Christian Right University and yet I heard a group of young people, some of which were divinity students according to their chatter, but whom I could not see because of the way in which the booths were set up and where I was sitting, saying things like this:

I think to avoid future wars for oil; we should nationalize the American oil companies. I further believe we should charge Halliburton with every crime we can think of and give them 24 hours to return all of their employees to the USA or face invasion by our troops. To think that we Christians supported this horror is a shameful, Travesty!

There was NO counter response. THAT is a very significant thing to hear in such a place!
