Britain has a state religion as a consequence of Henry VIII's antics. But regardless of historical issues and its associations with the British monarchy it may be 'a good thing', and prove the way forward for progressive nations Anglicanism being democratic and civil by nature while retaining its theocratic Christian character.
My hope this year is to advocate and petition for the re-establishment of the Church of Ireland despite historical issues surrounding the Cromwellian wars, plantations and close on 300years of Catholic repression. Though being a practicing Roman Catholic and and Irish Republican I can see that my own religion, being dogmatic and devotional in character, is not suited to reflecting progressive liberal values. As such I would be prepared to settle for the Irish State being officially Anglican while retaining it's predominant Roman Catholic affiliation.
The established church of the USA would likely be Judeo-Christian come Unitarian in character while a European Church would likely be more liberal again and possibly even pantheist, or post religious, in character. The point is folks like yourself have got to step up to the plate and advocate for positive outcomes like the Dali Lama has done in his book 'Beyond Religion', rather than persistently pushing a negative critique of orthodox religion. If you are not prepared to do that then the sincerity of your own convictions must be questioned preferably by your own inner critical voice assuming you take the bother to cultivate one.
