Lying Goes Local

My newspaper today carries the headline story of a young local soldier's funeral and a four-column color photo of his bereaved family clutching each other over his coffin, atop which is the American flag, triangularly folded as per regulation.

I suppose that to many, including me, this report brought wet eyes, and I suppose that to perhaps a smaller group, including me, the reaction to weep was compounded by the acid of rage. The military chaplain is quoted, "Our lives are richer because of the impact he's had on us. He stood on the wall so that we might be free."

This is a lie. Worse, it is an extension of the propaganda intended to cover the disgrace that has wasted the lives of 3500 Americans and countless thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq.

Our lives would indeed be richer if these were still among us. And the cause of freedom would be better served if the wall between honest citizens and a lying, treacherous government were torn down.

All decent Americans grieve for this young man and for his 3500 wasted fellows. We would do him and them honor not by weeping, but by exposing the lies and the treachery for what they are, stanching further bloodshed, and regaining a government they could be proud of.

Bless us all in this endeavor. Let's get started.
