I wanted to end this Easter Day with a joyous piece in which man does have it within to help out those in need, only to find out that ten U.S. soldiers died this Easter weekend. That joyous piece will just have to wait. The emotional high I was feeling was knocked out of me as I read that. Somehow this madness must end. If that is not bad enough, six Canadian forces lost their lives in Afghanistan as they were hit by a road-side bomb. While many rejoiced in both the United States and Canada, sixteen families are left grieving.
We were told by President Bush and those that supported the war in Iraq that we would be thought of as liberators and our soldiers greeted with flowers. That has not been the case and senators like John McCain should take note as he used our soldiers to stroll through a market place in Baghdad. The security that surrounded him should have told him and the American people that the Iraqi people feel differently.
I was absolutely stunned, but not really surprised to read last night this article, Iraqis Wish to Put up Saddam's Statue. That is because I have read about and wrote of a similar situation based upon the actions of the United States government’s actions using the CIA. I will speak of that further on in this piece.
As reported by IslamOnline.net: “Iraqis who once celebrated and even participated in pulling down Saddam Hussein's statue four years ago when US tanks rolled into Baghdad in a heart-breaking scene for many Arabs and Muslims are now lamenting the good old days under the late president.” We have all been told by our government that Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator, so it boggles the mind how the Iraqi people can long for the “good old days” under his regime.
Perhaps we should have left well enough alone since we have had the nasty habit of interfering in foreign governments in the past. We namely the Bush administration and those that supported this war did not have to take down Saddam Hussein and ultimately hang him.
Maybe, just maybe we should have left that up to the Iraqi people to choose their own destiny instead of us forcing them to do so. Besides, it was Osama bin Laden that attacked us and not Saddam Hussein, but try telling that to a liar (President Bush) and a greedy one at that. Right there with the many lies told to the American people and congress are grounds for impeachment, but oops, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi stated that any talk of impeachment is “off the table” She said that before the 2006 midterm elections. I still disagree as do countless others. That is a topic that others have screamed about in their articles and one that I will do as well in an ensuing article.
After reading the above article I was not at all surprised to read that thousands of Iraqis took to the streets in a demonstration against the United States in Najaf. When we toppled the statue of Saddam Hussein we replaced it with what came to be known as the "Freedom Sculpture" Instead of seeing it as being the symbol of freedom, the only ones who paid homage to it were our U.S. forces. Iraqis could not be bothered with it. I wonder why; don’t you?
