PARTICIPATE! MEDIA DEMOCRACY in the MAKING
The Pacifica Foundation's 2010 (pacifica.org) election is hiring local election supervisors (known as LES) at KPFA (Berkeley), KPFK (LA), KPFT (Houston), WPFW (Washington DC) and WBAI (NY) to help carry out their 2010 local station board elections. Read on and apply if you would like to participate in helping democratize the media.
The LES will work together with the national election supervisor (NES) to carry out the 2010 Local Station Board (LSB) Elections at their local radio station. The duration is June 1st to November 1st, 2010 and the pay is $18K for a 6 - month contract position.
What are these elections all about? The Pacifica Foundation, the oldest network of non-commercial, community-based radio stations in the United States, is the only listener-supported independent media network for which both listener-members and staff-members (paid and unpaid) have the opportunity to be involved in the decision-making process with respect to the station's budget, programming and policies via the local station board. Each local station board (LSB) is composed of 24 delegates and 12 are elected to serve on the board each election cycle. These 12 delegates are elected to the board through 2 simultaneous elections, one among staff-members (staff members elect 3 staff delegates) and one among listener-members (listeners elect 9 listener members). The LES is charged with supervising these 2 simultaneous elections.
