Our Election System Promotes Corruption, Voters Need to Demonstrate People Power, Said Miami Mayoral Candidate Khavari

Miami , FL  April 26, 2011: Noted economist and candidate for Miami-Dade County Mayor said to a group of supporters that "our election system promotes corruption, cronyism and favoritism.   Even worse, it makes the voters become indifference to the system, blinds them to the issues and hides real solutions."

He continued: "Whether on a state or county level, the focus of the media is on how much money was raised!   The focus should be about the candidate's qualities such as education, their platforms, achievements in life, their understanding of the problems and their plans for solutions. Yet, these topics are nearly completely overlooked as though they do not matter.

I am sure that many voters would agree that it does matter more and more after every election, because plans are never developed and solutions are never exercised."

He said, "Raising funds in large amounts is a serious warning sign. Nobody gives large sums of money without expecting favors in return and if favors are a condition to the contribution, then it really is a political bribe. At this point corruption has been borne and the politician is representing the special interest at the detriment of the citizen's interest".

He warned further: "As corruption becomes the rule, cronyism and favoritism follows and if allowed to continue cronyism and favoritism grows to a point that the entire political power machine system falls into the hands of a small group of people." "The worst part is," Khavari continued, "it makes people powerless, which end up making them disappointed, indifference and non participants in the system, which works in favor of the corrupt."

Asked about how to combat this problem, Khavari said: "The public needs to get involved and demonstrate People Power. They need to demand media coverage of the real issues; they need to demand media coverage presenting all possible candidate choices and demand coverage of possible solutions to their problems, so they can make an informed decision."

"Next they need to use their involvement and their vote to ban all special interest groups and corporate money from funding any candidates' campaign". Khavari went on to say,

"To demonstrate their level of political ripeness and aptitude, the voter should vote for those candidates who received no large contributions and have a solid economic plan. People Power should make special interest groups, corruption, cronyism and favoritism fail and thrown out of our political system," Khavari concluded."
