Voter's advocacy groups pushed for stronger standards and managed to stop the use of touch screen voting booths that have proved troublesome in other states.This regulation comes out of a fear that electronic voting booths can be hacked, and the record of the votes modified. The NYVV maintains that the lever system, while not without its problems,would be far safer and more reliable than electronic methods.
