The Middle East has been marked by a wave of dislocations (Iraq, Syria). The crisis of U.S. domination on a world scale once again expresses itself in its inability to master the "world order," as evidenced by the fall of Mosul and the conquest of part of Iraq by the Islamic Army of Iraq and Levant. To try to exercise some control over these developments, U.S. imperialism had to turn to Iran at the expense of its traditional allies, Saudi Arabia and Israel. This has sharpened the contradictions throughout the region. |
