James H. Wittebols is a professor of Political Science at the University of Windsor. Prior to that he taught as a professor of Communication Studies at Niagara University. He holds a Ph.D in Sociology from Washington State University and has a Bachelors degree in Journalism and sociology from Central Michigan University. His research on the news media has appeared in Political Communication and the Canadian Journal of Communication. In 1998, he published Watching M*A*S*H, Watching America: A Social History of the 1972-1983 Television Series (McFarland and Company). In 2004, he published The Soap Opera Paradigm: Television Programming and Corporate Priorities (Rowman and Littlefield). His current research focuses on the promotional culture industry
