Like this country's founders, I believe that the widest political empowerment under the rule of law is the surest way of having its resources work for the long term best interests of us all. The longer I live, the more I see that supports that belief.
I also see that at this time we are moving in the opposite direction. Unlike many "liberals", I don't blame this situation on the majority of citizens. It is hard to defend one's enfranchisement or keep a broad perspective while being miseducated by corporatist media. It gets even harder while being expected to own an attractive house in like-new condition, to avoid being considered a "loser" undeserving of any respect.
I still root for humanity, and hope the next era of enlightenment comes in time to prevent us from sterilizing the planet.

Some people feel strongly we should only vote for a minor party Presidential candidate if we are not voting in a swing state. They see Obama as the lesser of evils. I disagree, and these are some of my reasons.
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 Response to a Call (by a Libertarian) Not to Vote SHARE
Government by and for the people is worth fighting for. If we abandon the struggle we are ceding all power to the corporatocrats, who will increase their control of the most major decisions affecting the quality of our lives once the redtape of gov't doesn't slow them down. Jill Stein, on the ballot in 33 states, is a reasonable protest vote, and sends a much better message than not voting.
Friday, June 8, 2012 Response to Obama Apologists SHARE
What left opponents of Obama object to are his actions, not some alleged lack of effectiveness. We feel it is the duty of citizens to judge candidates for office, especially Presidents running for a second term, by their record rather than by speeches promising the sorts of things that the candidate has promised but made no attempt to fulfill in the past. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior, and the best indication of a candidate's actual agenda.

And what would happen if the entire gov't closed down tomorrow? Take your thinking to the next step, and stop swallowing the Fox News line that the abuse of power originates w/ the "government". How would the big bankers and international mega-corporatists behave once there were no laws at all?

What would have to happen and what we have to prioritize for representative gov't to be restored in the U.S.
Sunday, July 24, 2011 The Missing Argument SHARE
The strongest and most important argument against direct participation of corporations in election campaigns was never raised by the plaintiff and friends of the court opposed to such participation.
Saturday, January 8, 2011 Dilemma of the "Take Back Our Government!" Message SHARE
During the 2010 primary season, I volunteered for a couple of primary campaigns of committed progressives, one of whom had low name recognition. I pondered what he could do to make the needed impact w/ little money. His platform was lightyears away from the Presidential actions of Obama and from the corporatists Dems, but he is a Democrat.
