I finally got a day off from my "day job" and I awoke to so much activity I really don't have time to relax. First of all, the local news on my TV has the march on Washington tomorrow as it's lead story. Great, if it's a lead story down here in "God's Country" I can imagine what's going on in the rest of the country. Our own local TV people are finally admitting that most people are against the President's war plans. Amazing. You have to live here to understand that prior to today, if you just listened to the local news, you would have thought everyone in the country was supporting the war.

I had a comment from a regular member of the OpEdNews community. He seemed very surprised that the article I wrote yesterday about the military being given permission to court martial civilians was something he didn't run across in his daily news watch. He wanted me to confirm that what I wrote was true. I did, and he then remarked that it was amazing that he had not seen it elsewhere. I was amazed when I came across it in a small independent weekly here in Greenville, SC. I have other sources also, that tell me about things that happen that should be reported about, and I get private E-Mails that tell me of things. I didn't believe that I wasn't informed about it when I read it in that small weekly. I found out later that MSNBC and a few other major News Networks had it, but they buried it. NBC put it out on the web, and the others just put blurbs here and there. It's as if this story wasn't important. Look, when you talk of Congress voting for an amendment to the US Constitution, that basically puts us under military jurisdiction, it'd goddamn important. It should have been run as a front page banner headline. I shouldn't have to be informing America that they are subject to military court martial on a progressive website!

This is why outlets such as OpEdNews.com are so important to our democracy. Even some of the other highly touted "progressive" sites don't really veer too much from the Democratic Party line. At one time, they were outrageous, but over time, they kind of became what they were against. I am not pointing fingers here, sometimes it happens without people becoming aware of it. Alternative media by it's very name should be on the edge. When it becomes part of the recognized media, it is no longer "alternative" its become mainstream. That's OK too, as long as they still stand for what they did when they started. To just hand the media over to NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox is out of the question, we all have our place.

That place for OpEdNews.com is at the cusp of breaking news that is contributed by news and political junkies like us. You are part of Us, and that is what makes us special. I have my own little blog that I write on, but if I want to get something out that I believe in, I come here. This is where I know I can reach so many others that care as much as I do about what is happening to our nation. It's funny, but in times of trial, when our backs are against the wall, that's the time when the cream rises to the top. Just as when we were protesting against the policies of Richard M. Nixon, people wrote songs, and marched and we had a solidarity that we have not seen since. Until today that is. Tomorrow will be my second march on Washington to end a war. The last one was organized by a Vietnam Vet, John Kerry. It's funny how people change with age. At one time he was a raging firebrand, today he is part of the mainstream. See how things go around. If I were to have "peaked" when he did, I too could be a little more complacent and satisfied by the status quo. That's just how it seems to me.

So, if there is anyone reading this that's going to Washington, be careful. Last time I did this, on Sunday morning they had thousands of Federal Marshall's on horseback hitting people with billy clubs and putting them behind chicken wire. This is different, then it was warm and balmy, and The Beach Boys played for us in West Potomac Park, and we crashed where we fell. I don't think there will be so many people "sleeping out" tomorrow. Be careful anyway, I don't want to see anyone facing a court martial.
