I read conspiracy theories. It's not because I like to read them, I read them because I don't know who is telling the truth in my country anymore. I know that the truth is a slippery evasive thing, and a younger guy will whisper to me, like he's telling me the recipe for Coca-Cola; "Pop, they have never told the truth." Wink and look at me with a look of self-satisfaction, as if he's opened up a brave new world (no pun intended) for me. I'll smile back and pretend I'm amazed and go on trying to sort out the information I have, and try to come out with something that's a semblance of the truth. What I have noticed, and it might be that I've gotten wiser, but I don't believe that explains it, is that the government's lies are more outrageous than they have ever been. What's worse than the lies, is that people will actually believe almost anything nowadays. I remember the lead-up to the Iraq invasion. When the accusations started, I was sure that people would do something about the outrageous stories that were coming out of the White House. My wife and I were amazed as the invasion became a reality and Senators and the media were talking on TV like the things that Bush was talking about were true It jarred my sensibilities. After all the news reports, and all the reports from Hans Blix, I knew more about Iraq than I knew about Fort Lauderdale where I was living at the time Hussain would threaten to throw Hans Blix out, then he would let the inspectors back in, and he generally made a pain in the ass of himself, but the inspectors eventually got to see what they wanted to see. I really thought that George W. was screwing with Saddam while trying to make political points. I couldn't believe it when Powell went to the U.N. and did that dog and pony show with the illustrations of those chemical warfare trucks/rolling labs. It was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. Colin Powell must feel like a horse's ass, even today. The big lie that I can't get over is the line the President uses; "They hate us for our freedom". Think about it. Why in the world would anyone hate us for our freedom? Is that stupid or what? They could hate us for our wealth, but freedom, come on. The other one that follows is that line: "If we don't stop them over there, we'll have to stop them over here". The way I figure it, if we stop them over there, we will still have to stop them over here. What's the difference? Bush says that his proof that his Patriot Act and all the other measures he has taken are working, is that there haven't been any terrorist attacks since 9/11. It doesn't matter that they found undocumented aliens working on the flight line in major airports, or that every container on every container ship that enters this country, does so inspection free. Even if we could inspect them all, there are international laws against opening them up. Think about this, the government can't stop illegal aliens and drugs from entering the country. They sure can't take too much credit for keeping terrorist's out. Going back to conspiracy theories, which are what I set out to talk about before I got sidetracked, is that I hear so much about the Federal Reserve Bank these days, that there has to be something going on there. I am no economist or banker, but I hear about the dollar being printed like monopoly money and that the Federal Reserve Bank can't pay off our debt if it wanted to. I think that there is some truth behind the rumors. The stories are everywhere. The big expose' is that The Fed isn't even a part of the Federal government. Everyone says that commercial banks own and control the Federal Reserve Bank. They say that a large part of this build-up for war in Iran is because Iran is using Euros instead of dollars to fix their oil prices. To tell you the truth, I don't understand all of this, but from the amount of "chatter" I hear about it, I think that it would be a stretch to say that all of the people talking about this are all making up the same things. I don't understand why I have to hear about all of this on the internet instead of on the Mainstream Media. Isn't it their job to investigate and report? If they want a clue of where to investigate, they can read OpEdNews. What I'm saying here, is that if I know that there is a story here, why don't they know? Doesn't anyone want to win a Pulitzer Prize anymore, or do they all just want to follow each other around and quack like ducks? It's no wonder the circulation of the major newspapers is hitting an all time low. Journalism in the MSM is dead. These people aren't journalists. Most of them are society columnists. If the newspapers would have reported more on Bush's inconsistencies and the world reaction to his march toward war instead of the trials and tribulations of J-Lo and Ben, maybe enough people would have paid attention to his Neocon schemes. It seems as if Americans will accept anything. The government has taken just about every freedom that we had under the Constitution and trashed it. Congress is so addicted to Corporate and Special Interest money, that they forget what the hell they were elected to do in the first place. EXXON-MOBIL earned more money in 2006 than any other corporation in history. They "earned" over 33 million dollars a minute last year. 2% of the population of Earth owns 90% of it's resources. Meanwhile, the President tells us to go shopping. What's wrong with the Mainstream Media? Why is Keith Obermann a hero for asking questions such as these. Where are all the people that used to care? I read the internet blogs everyday and it's the same old people exposing all the crap that's happening for free, while it takes the journalists that get paid, months to follow-up on what they read on the internet and put it in the MSM so "normal" people can read about it on the train on the way to work. People in this country don't even mind being called dumb. I guess that it's too much trouble to care about real things. They would rather spend their time playing fantasy football, or watching "Survivor". If things keep going the way they are, they won't be just watching "survivor", they'll be playing it for real, right in their own hometowns.
