Nancy Pelosi appears to prepare in advance to rip up Trump's speech The US House speaker seemed to make a small tear in some pages of the text of Donald Trump's State of the Nation address almost an hour before she ...

Life Taught Me : Most of the times, revenge is a loss, ignoring it is a profit

America naked, America exposed, America transparent and America severely polarized. It never crossed my mind I will live to see the day America's Executive and Legislative branches of government fighting each other with serious enmity, as if one is located in Siberia and the other is located in Chile ! Where American politics are heading, and what impact the Pelosi / Trump fiasco has on the way American citizens see government ? In principal, the division of American political governance into the three components is ideal and no one is above the law. But why does it reach a point where feud is spelled out viciously and publicly ?

I quote an impressive verse from the Quran which shows the value of non-revenge, and I am sure similar verses exists in the Bible and other holy Books. But let me first clarify what I mean. President trump didn't shake hands with Speaker Pelosi. Pelosi responded (revenge) by ripping up a copy of his speech. An action and reaction. However one can give Trump the benefit of doubts ( may be he didn't notice when she extended her hand) but what benefit of doubts one can give to Pelosi? None. In fact , to the contrary, Pelosi's extending a hand to Trump could be considered as an aggression ( you are so dumb that despite what I did to you I am extending a handshake and expect you to accept it ). The verse from the Quran says, and I am translating the exact meaning but not the exact wording : " Good deeds can't be equated with bad deeds. When you manage the person with whom you are enemies with good deeds he will become a very loyal ally of yours" .

It is beyond expectation and beyond imagination seeing the speaker of the US House of Representatives tearing apart a copy of the speech of the American President in front of the World, while the president still standing in front of her. To me what she did, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the Trial, is an insult to the American people, at least to the more-than-half that voted for Mr. Trump. Sometimes, may be most of the times, forgiving a single insult /aggression can work for the benefit of the victim. A clear recent example is Iran's attack on Saudi oil refineries which halted half of Saudi oil production and 5% of world oil production. Saudi held back and let the aggression takes its course, while doing a miracle when it pumped extra oil from reserve and in the same time worked around the clock to fix the damage which was fixed incredibly within 4-5 weeks despite the huge damage to the installation.

Saudi never fired a single bullet to Iran. Iran was shocked by Saudi restraint and the speed with which damage was fixed. Saudi would have never achieved such a shock to Iran if it responded with missiles and F15s. Saudi Arabia won the World's support and sympathy while Iran suffered more sanctions and condemnations, a result would never have been achieved had Saudi responded with immature or hasty revenge as Pelosi did. I think students in Political and Social sciences can learn a lot from these two real life incidents.

You may be right about Saudi Arabia. They had more to lose-- further missile firings by Iran. But I'm not sure what Pelosi had to lose. Gaining the further enmity of Trump supporters is something she'll receive by just saying hello.

Angry losers don't care who they hurt. Like the father of a guy killed in a car crash who murdered two joggers the next day with his car....I loved Nancy's gesture myself. It was an expression, well timed, well done. She's so much smarter than Trump, it's painful to him and all who worship him. It was street theater at its best.

Trump's speech was an affront to the Constitution. Ripping it up was appropriate, but burning it in Congressional chambers may have been better.

That statement shows just what kind of bulls**t you are trying to foist upon us. If I remember correctly Killery beat the dumpster by somewhere around 3 million votes. If I am mistaken, show me.

Resentment and revenge damage one's soul. Resentment is like taking a poison pill and expecting the other person to die. Revenge just deepens wounds on both sides. Both block peace and serenity from entering the room. Do our political leaders even have a concept of peace and serenity? I do not see it and their walls stop those answers to our situation from entering.

Mr. Alomar - It is difficult to disagree with the spirit of your comment, yet I find it easy to understand the rage that Mr. Trump can elicit from Pelosi and millions of Americans. We do need to channel our feelings into pragmatic efforts to replace Mr. Trump and his accomplices with viable candidates. This will be a daily challenge for us all in the face of his continuous depraved statements and actions.

Words dont matter to the western ruling elites. According to your logic the Palestinians should "reason" with the Israeli zionists in the hope that the IDF and settlers will stop killing Palestinians.

Likewise the Houthis should "reason" with peace loving Saudis so that the Ssudis will stop allowing the US to bomb them...oh...nevermind that has already been tried.

Swallowing one's anger is the quickest way to terminal disease there is. It foments cancer and a host of other conditions. I'm not suggesting revenge as a solution--but justice. There are innumerable creative ways to fight back against oppressors resulting in a release of poisonous, unvented anger and that tends to be the most positive part of the healing process.

Agreed. Valid point Mr Cunningham. However, Swallowing your anger is to be a temporary transition for a more thoughtful and pondered action instead of a hasty spur-of-the-moment un-calculated reaction that is mostly regretted later. It takes a lot of wisdom and nerves to avoid hasty action especially if the provocation is heavy. Thanks for your comment.

I have never trusted myself in any situation where my or someone else's anger could escalate, I immediately shut down and become non-reactive (depending on the circumstances). Once I'm out of the situation I can then think about what the best possible avenue is for holding the offender accountable.

A quick example: I have a neighbor who has been harassing me for 5 years; he built an illegal 2 story apt overlooking my home/yard and completely destroyed my property value; he also refused to get a boundary survey before breaking ground. I had my own survey done and within days he removed my survey stakes and called my surveyor (turns out he encroached 7 ft into my property line). He insisted my land was his regardless of the survey results. He went further [even calling the Sheriff on me] and would trespass on my property and erect multiple 'keep out' signs in my face. To say I have rage for this excrement is an understatement. He began cutting trees on my property and erected a line of fencing stakes 2 ft off of my driveway. My level of hatred for him was so high, I knew that if I ever confronted him the chance he would be leaving in a body bag was high. So, instead, every single time he would attempt to erect a fence, I would destroy it and haul the materials away during the night when there was no possibility of a confrontation. I did this 4 times until he finally got it into his Trumpian brain that I was never going to allow him to put a fence on my property. I'm working [without his cooperation] on a solution for receiving compensation for his land theft.

Every time I destroyed the illegal fence a little more rage dissipated. The wisest thing I did [am still doing] was to keep my physical distance from him in a situation which was all but certain to turn tragic.

You can't be living in lawless no-man land where one does something daytime and the other reverses it nighttime. There are lawless psychopaths everywhere who believe they are above the law and can victimize whomever they please, whenever they please, this is my neighbor. [We all just witnessed the same thing in the US Senate and for the last 3+ years under Trump.] I have defended myself in the most non-violent way possible in order to fight back. By the way, my tactic worked. In the last 6 months he has stopped his attempts at land theft, this, after he called the Sheriff on me and was told I wasn't breaking any law. I have a survey [he doesn't] proving my boundary lines and his encroachment, and I will continue to defend my land by destroying any threats to it.

The only reason I've avoided him and continue to do so is due to the very real possibility of a violent outcome. I don't speak to, see or communicate with him in anyway, but he now knows anything he puts up on my land will be destroyed.

I have no doubts that Speaker Pelosi now regrets having ripped up a copy of President Trump's speech publicly in front of the whole world. Rude, impolite, foolish, shocking... No sensible person will dare do it . Suppose Pelosi didn't rip up the speech copy what will we be talking about now ? Trump's impoliteness ignoring Pelosi's hand , but she gave up that opportunity by her spur-of-the-moment reaction.

Washington DC is built around theatrics. That's all Nancy was doing. It had nothing to do with anger. She would rather Trump be reelected than a moderate progressive win as a Democrat. It's better for her and the rest of the ruling class if that is the outcome.
