Instead of these gratuitous "Town Meetings" where we first listen to sad stories from people who have been denied healthcare, mis-used and cheated by their insurers, or can't afford any at all, THEN be told that Single-payer, which would solve all this, is "Impossible" and told to settle for a "Public Option" at best (which can then be further watered down by Republicans and these mutts calling themselves Democrats), we should be mobilizing to expose those who stand in the way for the miserable YELLOW dogs they are! Cowards who will NOT stand up for what we already know the People want, who are too greedy to resist the constant bribes and handouts from the "Healthcare" and Insurance Industries!
Witness Max Baucus, the chair of the Senate hearings who not only forbade discussion of Single Payer but threw several protesting nurses in Jail...especially outrageous because he himself has taken the biggest bribes from the insurance lobby of them all!
This issue is truly a litmus test for how well (or in this case POORLY) our representative form of government works: Not well at all, unless you're a LOBBYIST! I suggest we forego any further "Meetings" that only make excuses for the status quo, and tell us "No we can't".
"I was rather shocked at the "meeting" last night to hear you pronounce that Single Payer would not be considered...again! That was the sole reason I went, and why I walked out in disgust.
Let me please remind you, as someone who voted for you and helped in your campaign, that your job is to LISTEN to your constituency, in Maine up to 95% who WANT SINGLE-PAYER, ...NOT to stand there and dictate the Party Line to us about what is "Possible" and what is not!
Your job is to take what we want and try to MAKE it possible. That takes Leadership, not conformity.
Sadly disappointed,"
I will be at every protest for Single-payer I can find in my area, (Starting with one in front of Olympia Snowe's office next Saturday) and suggest everyone else who really cares about this do the same. Forget about these disingenuous "meetings" and getting any satisfaction from your "Representative", especially if you have one of those "Blue Dog" yellow-bellied curs in your state... write public letters to embarrass them whenever you can, and protest their offices and in front of local media outlets so you can't be ignored.
This issue has to go to the streets, literally and figuratively. Those who fail us in this crucial reform don't deserve to be re-elected...period! Tell your Representatives "That Dog don't hunt!"
