Siegelman, Minor and other targeted Democrats were not forgotten in Washington today

"How can the average American in these United States expect to get a fair trial when the leaders cannot get a fair trial?  How ridiculous is it that we have evidence of bias of U.S. attorneys...judges, where you can prove, where you can point to documents... out of their own mouths that they had a personal bias?"     Charles Walker Jr.

Lawyer and journalist Andrew Kreig put together a brilliant and inspired forum which took place this morning at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.  Dedicated, principled Americans like Scott Horton, Judge U. W. Clemons, Bruce Fein and Charles Walker Jr. talked about the egregious, selective prosecution that occurred under the auspices of the past administration's Justice Department.  It comes as no surprise that a large majority of Democrats were targeted by Bush's DOJ.  Many of those targeted officials were guilty of nothing more than being compassionate, motivated, effective, public servants.

To hear the stories of how innocent Democrats ended up imprisoned is shocking and horrifying, but fortunately we have a new President and a new Attorney General, and it is within their purview to undo the grave injustices that were committed in the effort to keep Democrats out of positions of power and responsibility.

Readers may be aware of the case of Governor Don Siegelman, and my personal mission is to do what I can to support his effort to be fully exonerated.  But other stories are also compelling, including that of former Georgia State Senate Majority leader Charles Walker, Sr.  I was enthralled by his son's telling of the story of the witch hunt that took down Walker Sr. Fortunately, C-SPAN felt this event warranted live video coverage, and if you missed it (the forum ran 3 hours and 15 minutes on C-SPAN 3), you can watch it here.  click here href="http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&tID=5&src=atom&atom=todays_events.xml&products_id=287304-1">Cspan-forum-on-DOJ.  It's easy to search around to find speakers who might interest you if you can't commit to watching the entire event.

We owe Andrew Kreig a debt of gratitude for his tireless efforts to see that attention is brought to the unconscionable political prosecutions that targeted some of our best and brightest political leaders and Democratic Party fund-raisers.

Watch the replay of this important forum.  Then call Eric Holder to demand justice for Don Siegelman, Paul Minor, Charles Walker Sr. and the other Democrats who were political targets of the last administration's Justice Department.  It's time to disinfect the DOJ and exonerate those righteous individuals who have suffered more than we will ever comprehend.
