Our world is the world of experts. These experts tell us how to raise our kids, how to eat, how to make love and even how to take care of our own bodies. At best we are consumers of fads and cheap entertainment. In becoming robotic consumers, we no longer have the common sense to decide anything for ourselves, for we have become disempowered to do anything without experts. Even in parenting our kids, we need the behavioral psychologists, who are the self-proclaimed bona fide experts who define appropriate and inappropriate behavior.

According to the experts, we simply do not have the good scientific sense to raise our kids. Our silly ancestors raised us for thousands of years and they made such a mess! Thus, we need the experts. We are ignorant fools, much like the infamous backwoods-backwards Clampetts of the Beverly Hillbillies. What do us backwoods unscientific buckaroos know?

The experts tell us how to live all aspects of our lives. Be they in book form, or in a professional psychologist office, or in doctors' offices, they tell us how to eat, dress for success, how we should raise our children and, even, how we should make love. Oh, how many books are there that tell us "what women want?" or, if we are a woman, how to make a man love us? And, God forbid we are not to rely on our own senses for raising our children.

We do it all wrong, and our ancestors did it all wrong for thousands of years. Yet we survived. Of course, we don't consider that our treatment of the Earth right now could be preparing us for one of the worst extinction bouts known to the planet's history. And, that extinction may just be inclusive of us.

Going beyond predictions, its a wonder we evolved for several thousand years. Poor people didn't have modern scientific methods to help us survive. How did they do it without genetic engineering and standardized design? How did indigenous tribes survive into the 21st century in such joyous harmony and health?

Wait! Is this right? Or does it sound absurd? How did humanity actually not only survive, but evolve over the course of thousands of years? Yet, interestingly, in today's world, we have never been more at risk for massive extinction. Furthermore, Deep Ecologist Daniel Quinn argues we as a species have NOT evolved in the past several thousand years. While our technology may be more fancy, WE have not evolved. By adapting the "resources" of our environment to fit our "needs," we have short- circuited our own adaptation to Nature's guidance. We have become gross misfits on the planet with more in common with our artifacts than with our life-source. We have shut ourselves up into isolated apart-ments, away from the flow of life and love. We have sickened ourselves and then responded to the pain we caused by numbing it or surgically removing the offending part rather than healing it. Furthermore, look at what we are doing to our Earth. We are destroying the planet that supports us and yet we claim to be the sharpest tools in the shed!

What if the lie is what's being told to us today regarding our progress?

Can we learn to trust ourselves, our inner wisdom and the wisdom of our community again. Can we diminish our dependence on the "experts?" Perhaps we need some retraining like being more attentive to our thoughts, feelings and intuitions. Maybe, along with spinning, log-splitting, and cooking, we have lost our skill as empaths and intuitives. How did those illiterate farmers read the weather more accurately than our modern meteorologists anyway? How did the Mayans know that the the heavens would realign in 2012?

Of course, in the old days, we still had experts but those experts were often highly intuitive in their ways about living in the world. Thus there have been those who were great intuitive hunters and gatherers, as well as those that were great intuitive healers and spiritual leaders.

Intuition is an intelligence greater than the rational mind. Indeed, it is more holistic and less divided, or ration-al. Intuition by feeling is grasping the wholeness of a situation and is not so much a conscious rationing of the parts. Indeed, the parts as they stand comprise in themselves the aspects of the wholeness that are interdependent on each other rather than operating in isolation from each other. If we could go back to comprehending our brain as exquisitely interactive with our heart, our gut, our senses, nature, neighbor, culture, and the Universal Life-force, we might learn to trust "common sense" again. We might relearn that true ignorance is ignoring the Wisdom indwelling within and around us, not a lack of academic indoctrination.

Of course many would laugh and look at creation stories like the Bible's Genesis 1 and say, "these people were ignorant." Yet, as many have argued, these stories state in metaphorical language exactly what many quantum physicists, chaos theorists, and systems theorists say today. Our world, this moment, arises from a deep, unlimited Source which is called by physicist David Bohm the Unmanimfest Implicate Order. Science, in other words, is just now catching up to what our ignorant ancestors knew.

The loss of our ability to use intuition is manifold. We have lost the power to raise our kids, and have surrendered them, their lives, their souls, as well as their psychological, physical and spiritual well-being to professional educators, psychologists, politicians and corporate executives. Yes, we have turned our kids over to three piece suit professionals that have no emotional bonds to you, or your children, and are more interested in their career path and the following of some theoretical perspective in education or psychology. Ultimately, they are in it for the money, power and prestige and fitting your kid into a diagnostic category helps them to pay the bills and gain prestige.

Furthermore, we work for organizations in which we don't matter. We are a liability at best, and are kept aboard primarily because they haven't found a machine yet to replace us. We are nothing, our minds have become nothing and our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are not only nothing too, but have no future....other than as blind consumers....maybe.

At any rate, our children are a resource to be exploited, both as consumers and as employees.

There is movement to counteract these trends. One such movement is that of using intuition as a means of helping people regain their power. Winter Robinson is one such person. Winter is an author, consultant, educator, therapist, medical intuitive, permaculturist, and gardener. Winter states that many of her clients are those who feel the "rug has been pulled from underneath them and that they now stand in the unknown."
