The United States State Department complained, claiming they are dangerous, and will return to fight for the Taliban.  Releasing the prisoners is an obvious 'slap in the face' by Karzai to the American government.  He has made it very clear that he wants all Americans out of Afghanistan as soon as possible.

So, why are we there?  If you have a logical answer to that, please let me know.

No one wants to call what is happening in Iraq a 'civil war,' but it sure looks like that to me.

At the end of 'Operation Desert Storm,' Bush One promised air support for the Shia if they would overthrow the Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein and his Sunni forces.

When Bush reneged on his promise, the better trained and equipped forces of Saddam Hussein killed thousands of Shia.  They have never forgotten.

Bush Number Two decided to invade Iraq under false pretenses.  His accomplishments were the death of over 4,000 Americans; the wounding of over 20,000 of our finest young men and women; the death and injury of 200,000 Iraqi citizens; and the overthrow of the Sunni government.

Now that the Shia are in power, they have taken acts of revenge against the Sunni.  In retaliation, the Sunni have performed numerous terrorist attacks at Mosques and other public places where the Shia are known to frequent.  Every week thousands of innocent men, women, and children are slaughtered.  Sure seems like 'civil war' to me.

No one in either of those countries wanted us on their soil.  No one except our government, under false pretenses, wanted American soldiers there.

The United States has tens of thousands of military located on dozens of bases in dozens of countries.  In many of those countries there are multiple bases.

I do not believe we should be in any of them, and I'm certain everyone will agree with me that we definitely do not need bases in The United Kingdom, Germany, France, or Japan.

Defense spending in the United States is five times higher than that of any other country in the world.  The next highest in China.

Both Democrats and Republicans are good at things; telling lies and wasting money.  I have one question for the Republicans: why do you claim the most important part of your agenda is to reduce spending and the deficit?  That is a falsehood because you defend billions of dollars of waste by the Pentagon every year.

We do not have to cause the working class in our country more misery.  All we have to do is streamline a bloated military, and 'bring our boys home' from every corner of the world.

Forced to retire in 2008, I turned to my passion, writing. I published my first novel, "A Little Murder in the Biggest Little City" in October, 2012. I answered an ad for an articles writer, shortly after that, and wrote hundreds of articles for (more...)
