This a review of Joel Gilbert's DVD entitled: Dreams of my "real" father: A Story of Reds and Deception. Spoiler Alert: Most of this DVD is a recycled absurdity, harking back to a bygone era: about how the Communist, Barack Obama, wormed his way into the presidency and now is responsible for all of America's ills. It is thus a production, whose script is a cliched trope taken right out of the radical right's anachronistic play book. Undoubtedly, it has been paid for by the deep pockets of the "vast rightwing corporate-led Conspiracy."
That said, the second part of the DVD, about whether (the obvious FBI agent provocateur), Frank Marshall Davis, is the president's "real" father or not, is not so easily dismissed, for it pulls together into a compelling circumstantial package, the pieces of a rather convincing case that Davis might indeed be Mr. Obama's "real" father? Therefore, despite the silliness about Obama being a Communist, the exploration into whether Barack was indeed the son of a Kenyan goat-herder as he has repeatedly claimed, or is the son of an FBI undercover agent provocateur, has merit.
Let us deal with this more troubling aspect of the DVD first, and conclude the review with a few reasons why the claims about Communism can all be easily dismissed as nonsense.
Part I: Is Frank Marshall Davis, Barack Obama's real father?
The author's smoking gun is a collection of glossies resurrected from Girlie magazines during the period when Lolita-like 16-year old Stanley Anne Dunham, was already pregnant. The evidence is incontrovertible that the pictures are of Ms. Dunham: naked, in sexually exotic poses on a couch in Frank Marshall Davis' photography/porn studio. Since the pictures could not have been photoshopped or faked, they remain unimpeachable evidence that Anne Dunham's pregnancy resulting in a son, was undoubtedly caused by Frank Marshall Davis.
The trail of supporting evidence is equally compelling. Anne's father, CIA undercover agent, Stanley Dunham and Frank Marshall Davis, FBI agent provocateur (posing openly as Honolulu's resident Communist), were close friends. It is for this very reason that 16-year old Anne was allowed to hangout at Frank's studio to listen to Jazz.
However, as the pregnancy became known, Frank, already married, could ill-afford having his wife find out, and thus could not openly or legally accept his fatherly responsibilities. As a result, he came clean appealing to his friend, Anne's father, for help. The two men put their heads together and came up with a surrogate fatherhood plan that would involve a student in the Kenyan Student Exchange Program that Stan was coordinator of.
Stan convinced one of them, Barack Obama senior, to accept a quid pro quo of temporary surrogate fatherhood in exchange for a four-year full-paid scholarship to Harvard. Obama accepted; the "sham marriage" was arranged and dissolved as planned six months later -- as Obama senior headed off to Harvard.
That is Gilbert's story of how Frank Marshall Davis became President Barack Obama's father. And for anyone who may doubt this alternative to Barack's own "son of a sheep-herder" origin story, there is collateral evidence to be thrown in. For instance, after Davis' death, poems to "Anne" were found in his effects. And Gilbert claims that a midwife performed the delivery, someone who may still be alive and could confirm or refute his claims. But there is a "kicker" to further muddy the waters: For anyone who is still unconvinced, there is always the gold standard of paternity as a fallback position: DNA. While the Obama haters have been chasing their own tails trying to certify Obama's Birth Certificate, maybe they have been barking up the wrong tree? It is DNA that prove or disprove the "son of a sheep-herder" origin story that they should be searching for.
Part II: Is Barack Obama a Communist mole installed in the US presidency by a group of Chicago-run Communists and terrorists?
The subtext of the entire DVD is based on the author pretending to discover the truth of this question.
But Gilbert betrays his devious plan by beginning with a faulty syllogism: that if Obama's "real" father was a Communist, then so too was he? The problem with this premise however is that it forces Gilbert to pretend not to know the obvious: that Frank Marshall Davis, rather than being a "real" Communist, was in fact about as obvious an FBI agent provocateur as one can be.
Since it is thus clear beyond a shadow of doubt that Frank Marshall Davis lived out most of his adult life in Hawaii as an FBI undercover agent -- that is to say, as a "fake" Communist -- Gilbert's premise about him being a "real" Communist turns into dust, into a poison pill that destroys any credibility of his attempt to write a scenario that would pin the Communist label on Barack Obama's back.
But this did not stop Gilbert from trying to fulfill his obsessive goal anyway. He continued his quest despite the faultiness of his premise, weaving an ever more tortuous (barely comprehensible at times), and an improbable tale about how Barack Obama had learned his Communist ways at the knee of his "real" father (as a "real" rather than a "fake" Communist) in Hawaii during his teen years.
According to Gilbert, new scenario by fiat, Obama then transported these ways to Chicago, where, living a double life, he was able to worm his way up the food chain to the US presidency. In 2008, he emerged at the pinnacle of American power as the new black post-modern post-racial, multicultural savior. Barack Hussein Obama, the closet Communist, would be seen as a prodigy superstar politician, whose political resume said he was born of an African sheep herder.
