Turning the Tables: The Bushites Have Thoroughly Botched That "War on Terror" of Theirs
The Democrats should assail the image the Bushites try to convey of themselves as effective leaders for the war on terrorism:
The Bushites have botched the war on terrorism, the Democrats should declare forcefully. They themselves told us at the outset that the greatest danger to us was that rogue nations would hand weapons of mass destruction to the terrorists, and then they gave us a list-- the famous "Axis of Evil," the nations of Iraq, Iran, and North Korea.
Well, of those three, Iraq was the one that was LEAST able to threaten us and the world with WMDs, but that's the one that they invaded. We all know what a disaster that has turned out to be: if we accomplish anything at all there, it will be far, far less than what we were told we would, and the cost has been far, far greater.
But beyond that, their blunders have greatly increased the danger from the other two parts of that "Axis of Evil." It is completely clear that the Bushite management of both the Iranian threat and the North Korean threat have made difficult situations much worse.
The supposed "cakewalk" in Iraq was supposed to initimidate the Iranians would straighten up and cooperate, or face another American invasion. But because of the Bushite blunders in Iraq, the greatest winner of the American war in Iraq will be the Iranians. The new Iraq regime, if it holds together, will likely be friendlier to Iran than to the U.S. And even if Iraq disintegrates deeper into civil war, the Iranian dominance in the region will be enhanced by the Bushite venture.
Likewise with North Korea, the Bush policies have led to a steady deterioration of the situation. And with the American military already over-extended and damaged by the Iraq venture, the United States has less military leverage to compensate for the diplomatic incompetence.
So, here we are, with the danger to the United States from the "Axis of Evil" now far greater than it was before. If that doesn't constitute a significant failure in the "war on terror," by the Bushites own standards, it is not clear what would.
