Will this usurpation be allowed to stand? That is the urgent question now facing America. It is a question of historic importance, because if the Bush claim to unchecked power is not overturned, America as we have known it will exist no more.
With their outrageous claims, the Bushites have fairly dared America to stand up for the Constitution.
Their confidence should not intimidate us. It is possible this confidence reflects their knowing that they already have pulled off their coup d?etat, that they have concentrated sufficient power in their hands to withstand any resistance from the nation.
But this gang has misread their battlefields before. Just look at Iraq.
Overreaching would be nothing new for these Bushites. Their boldness ?their sheer chutzpah?clearly exceeds their judgment.
For all these reasons, the defense of our constitutional system is our battlefield of choice.
That leaves, of course, the question of strategy: Given that battlefield, how should those forces already opposed to the Bush regime best be deployed? How should the alarm be sounded? What should be the moves, and in what sequence? All good questions?questions to be addressed on another occasion.
