The hidden message behind this is that "we will control you and you shall obey us!" The corporate masters determine the jobs and the salaries with which we will live; the products with which we clothe ourselves and fill our homes, garages, and yards; and the entertainment with which we "recreate." And we wonder why we are feeling alienated and powerless?
We love our children and truly care about the future they have on this planet. "Yea, right," a rebellious adolescent states who knows better sneers: "Do you even care about yourself? Have you considered the environment I will have to raise my children in?"
It's towards benefiting and empowering you and your child that your actions need to focus. It's YOUR needs and your family's needs that matter. Not those of the top 1 to 5%! It's YOUR community you need to live in, not under a corporate bottom line that equates to a poverty line.
What would a real world look like if we fostered power in the top 99% subsuming the 1%? Can we dynamite the Egyptian pyramids while reclaiming the intense and infinite power hidden within our own Souls?
Have you ever watched the series, "The Day the Universe Changed?" At the end of it, the narrator (Burke) states:
If the universe is what you say it is, then, by all means, say!"
What do you say? "Disempowered or empowered?" Dare you speak your voice to become empowered? Isn't your voice also your actions? Can you invest in local mom-and-pop ventures and then purchase their products or services to help make sure they prosper and your investment repays? Can you love your neighbor enough to help finance the repair of her leaky roof? Can you help that farmer on the outskirts of town to extend his growing season by fronting the money for his high tunnel greenhouse, knowing the government will pay him (and therefore you) for it once he builds it? This is what David is helping to make manifest in the village of Bowdoinham! What gifts do you have to support community alongside your self and family?
We can no longer embrace the socio-pathology of our culture. To break that embrace, we must realize we don't need nor will we tolerate "The Man" to rule over us. Our labor, the power within us, our private capital is what we must turn to in creating a just, sustainable and equitable future. "Build it, and they will come," isn't just a fantasy field of dreams. It's a neighborhood.
Can you join people like David Whittlesey in making this happen? Can we bring forth a bottom up culture by redeveloping power within community as reflected in Rob Kall's vision of bottom-up? Let's stop supporting the top 1% on the broken backs of our labor and go broke in the process. Change comes about when we (both reader and writer) change.

There are some people like David Whittlessey who are aware of what's going on in this world. In essence, the work he does is pro bottom 99%. He helps those in his community of Bowdinham (about 30 miles North of Portland) by raising money within a community so that banks are not a part of the picture for a particular loan
