Understanding these imperatives, I could not read past the first sentence of the Libertarian/anarchist Lew Rockwell's recent essay in which he says that all government, by the very fact of its power, is unavoidably a coalition of the elite determined to exploit and enslave us. Because if that is true, there is nothing left--nothing that can prevent a miserable, marginal existence for the next generations, wracked by the triple cataclysms of war, famine, and a poisoned planet, kept in confusion and banned from naming their pain.
