Fact, on the other hand, leads us where it wills, whether or not we wish to go there. It is – can be – a very frightening journey, and one that brings us to places we would rather not go.
This young man who is my student, is a bright and promising young man. His journey, whether to Truth or Fact, is just beginning.
It is my hope that he will choose the right path – the path of Fact over Truth. But in the very act of thinking that, I impose upon him my Truth and, in doing so, potentially deny him the very thing I wish him to have – that freedom from the comfortable lies of Truth and the incessant dissatisfaction of seeking the undeniable Fact upon which he may build his own Truth.
For succor, I remember the words of Albert Einstein: I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.
