Opposition to Corpocracy
Brumback uses the term corpocracy, which reflects the rule of corporations, in contrast to democracy, which is the rule of the people. What we need, according to Brumback, is a Chamber of Democracy alongside a coalition of all the organizations in opposition to corpocracy. Gary thus takes the "United We Stand" motto seriously. He is right. The corporations have divided us, alienating us from "competitors" and isolating us in apart-ments.
We pay for an abundance of unemployment, poverty, hunger, and hypocrisy with the remnants of our democracy. We adopt the vocabulary of the oppressor when we think of social security as an "entitlement" which the government could undercut to further imbalance our budget in favor of the elite.
My wife, Merry, pointed out in the roundtable that we can only take the distorting spectacles from Psyche's sister (read our population) by looking her in the eye, acknowledging the pain her blinded condition is causing her, gently removing her artificial lenses, and revealing to her the beauty and bounty of the natural world of which we are naturally a part. There is nothing wrong with her eyes; the mirrors of the "fun-house" just give her a distorted vision of herself and her world. If she never sees anything beyond the walls of the fun-house created to rob her of her hard-earned dollar, she cannot understand that those mirrors are skewed for the profit of a very few.
It is up to those among us who do see clearly with the eyes we inherited from Mother Nature to invite her into the abundance we experience. Explain to her what a time-bank is; take her with you to your CSA farm to enjoy the camaraderie and fresh air; invite her to a sing-along hosted in the intimacy of a local musician's humble home.
How they gonna keep 'em boxed in Paree after they've seen the farm?
Exposure to this vision can turn Psyche's sister around, just as I turned those lyrics around. Therein lies true (r)evolution, not coercion or violence that just circles around in a constant replaying of "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Education is not force-feeding them your version of abundance. It is leading forth the natural wonder and glory within them.
