Thomas Jefferson wrote that the people should assume the right to bear arms to overthrow the government, once it would become obvious that it had overstepped its bounds.

Building on the Patriot act and the aforementioned unilateral declarations by the U.S. military that it may occupy foreign countries in the Americas whenever it would deem doing so necessary, and replete with providing proper education to minorities and others only after expressing a willingness to serve in the military, the U.S.'s ruling elite has certainly manifested that which calls for replacement of the present political infrastructure with a democratic system of government.

This is also consistent with the U.S.'s own constitution's appeal for an evolving manifestation of its democratic political system. The U.S.'s true founder called for change under the very circumstances that confront the U.S. citizenry today.

However, when Thomas Jefferson called for citizens to take up arms under today's circumstances, Mr. Jefferson could not foretell just how obscenely violent the U.S. would indeed become.

Therefore, a violent overthrow would not be a revolution, since it would merely be more of the same. By definition, therefore, in this case, the U.S. revolution would necessarily need to be a non-violent evolution.

Some Americans have said that Canada evolved into what the U.S. had wished to become. This is due to a Land's historical origins. If Americans were pioneers, they could save themselves, and prevent the nuclear or chemical holocaust to which they are leading the planet.

If citizens were to note WHO are the opponents of proposed constitutional change, well, then the message would be clear, and the citizenry would be caused to, and be free to respond in kind with the will of the U.S. constitution and the guidance of Thomas Jefferson in-hand.

From Guantanamo to the streets where citizens used to have the right to gather to protest freely and fearlessly (in Canada pre-Harper, anyway), Americans have had democracy denied, because, due to pride, ignorance or both, they never had it to begin with, nor the wish to acknowledge the need for structural constitutional change, which they would deem to be recognition of "not being the best."
