Good keyword for learning more " cross border data flows". A good GATS related keyword "disciplines on domestic regulation" Which is about making national laws support the GATS goals which replace the ones we're familiar with with corporate goals like lowering wages and in practical terms eliminating nations ability to change laws corporations don't like without subjecting themselves to risks of substantial sanctions being levied against them..

The changes will likely impact even more workers and jobs. These are changes that have been contemplated for the whole lifetime of the Internet as possibilities emerged to "optimize the value in the supply chains" a euphemism for employing the cheapest workers you can to do each separate thing, spreading your business all around the world (globally fragmented value chains)

and if that happens it will directly conflict with immigration reform and the urgent need to address the refugee crisis. (people will be overloaded - having seen so many lose jobs- they wont be told that whats being used is in effect a loophole that lets corporations internally transfer workers, from low wage countries to high, continuing to pay in the low wage country, not immigration. The workers will learn new skills, and then leave. Hollowing out the middle class .

Donald Trump actually uses migrant guest workers in Dubai. And has come under fire for doing it here too. And Bill Clinton signed us into the WTO.

Therefore I see both candidates as hugely posturing, and neither of their motivations are what they claim they are. This particular kind of lack of knowledge is a dangerous void which our new breed of politician/crooks take advantage of. The country would be far better served if people knew more about GATS, the whole labor mobility agenda, and the core motivator behind services liberalisation. Otherwise we are flirting with disaster. Is it right to "support policies that encourage firms of all sizes, in particular women and youth entrepreneurs, women-led firms and SMEs, to take full advantage of global value chains". when those chains are truly chains of exploitation that don't allow the bulk of workers in any country to earn enough to live and continually push wages lower in order to shave e few tenths of a cent off of a service or products cost.?

Its important for the truth to be known. A similar situation unfolded in the UK where the EU was blamed for changes to NHS funding which were actually caused by the constraints placed on public services like health care by GATS, which poses a similar threat to attempts to implement public health care in the US and the continued operation of Medicare in Canada..

The information vacuum concerning GATS in the UK may have made a crucial difference.

Had the UK public known more about GATS, they would have been far better equipped to make decisions concerning their EU membership if their goal was preserving their NHS. Because the EU was not, as was falsely asserted by Nigel Farange, the cause of NHS defunding. GATS likely was. Or so it seems to me successful Yes vote to Brexit. However, even leaving the EU may not help as the EU may have been a moderating influence on policy - if the UK's radical neoliberal government gets their way a pivot into the US orbit is highly unlikely to lead to the UK's exit from the WTO, or preservation of the NHS, quite the opposite. Similarly, here in the US, the fact that the GATS was behind the 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act leading to the 2008 World Financial Crisis has gone largely unreported in US media, apart from the publications of a few dedicated NGOs like Public Citizen.

Tying the hands of our elected leaders will cause dysfunctional politics- This has already been happening for a long time.

FTAs elevate corporations above people and attempt to tie governments to the mast, as it were, (Like Ulysses and the Sirens) to prevent their being responsive to their people, and hamstring democratic rule of law, in order to cater to investment, preventing any change, until society's order breaks down and the cycle begins again, except rversed. That is exactly what democracy was supposed to prevent. Hijacking democracy is violence. It is a form of violence that does not promote stability. to carve changes in stone, and it is the opposite of progressive or global, to make such devious changes without the public becoming aware that this huge change which literally changes everything, has even been undertaken. They are doing it to steal the publics votes, without paying anything for them in service. They should all be required to repay the public for their wages with interest.

So, can you see it, this is an alternative, far more substantiative alternative explanation, for the carnival that is the 2016 US election season, what amounts to a huge trick, whose goal was distracting Americans from a scheme whose intent is making business immensely more profitable by lowering wages by replacing many workers with low wage, international guest workers who will be denied a subset of rights, particularly those that will give them the ability to negotiate higher wages or, if they wanted to stay, a path to citizenship.

They will be second class workers, kept in a perpetual state of limbo and stress. Why? This is a travesty that they hid for a reason, because it should be a crime. These programs amount to a legal loophole that has so far remained under the radar as has the entire GATS, and the new TISA which is basically a continuation of it, allowing politicians to steal votes by making promises they know they cannot keep. In order to recognize when a promise is BS, its necessary to know how these deals work.

A lot of confusion can be traced to Americans (and to a lesser extent Europeans) lack of knowledge of a core principle of both the little known 1995 GATS trade agreement on services, (Its a specific definition used in both that agreement and many subsequent others, and its calculating, intentional ambiguity.
