Bush Used Fringe Veterans Group to Attack McCain as “Manchurian Candidate.”
“In the case of Ted Sampley, the same guy who did Bush’s dirty work in going after Sen. John McCain in the 2000 Republican primaries is doing the job against Kerry this year. Sampley dared compare McCain, who spent five years as a Vietnam POW, with ‘the Manchurian Candidate.’”
Sampley Called McCain a “Coward” and a Traitor.
“Sampley… accused McCain of being a weak-minded coward who had escaped death by collaborating with the enemy. Sampley claimed that McCain had first been compromised by the Vietnamese, then recruited by the Soviets.”

If John McCain did capture the Presidency, one would hope that McCain would send Bush and Cheney straight to the Hague for war crimes as partial payment for smearing his name and reputation in 2000 (and of course for the crimes both have committed), but weak-kneed McCain will pander and forget anything the GOP has done in the past, all in the name of so-called “conservative values” and his chance to continue Bush’s warmongering.
The GOP is vile, disgusting, and to me, their motives are clear and simple; John McCain is seventy-one (71) years old, and if the stress of the campaign doesn’t kill him, I’m betting the rigorous routine of being President will, equating to his Vice-President ascending eventually, probably sooner than later, to the Presidency. The true conservatives can’t stand him, but if he teams-up with Huckabee, the Democrats may be in for an election that will be close and therefore easy to steal via electronic voting machines and other underhanded GOP tactics; where McCain can’t get the “conservative” vote, Huckabee would, and in my humble opinion, would eventually be our President (sic).
Remember two important points when you evaluate McCain and Huckabee; John McCain has a legendary temper that preceded the Vietnam War and the United States doesn’t need another loose cannon in the White House:
John McCain’s Temper Preceded Vietnam
Ronald Kessler
Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006By his own account, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the front-runner for the 2008 presidential race, had trouble controlling his anger long before he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
Back in 1999, McCain allowed reporters from the Arizona Republic, New York Times, and The Associated Press to review 1,500 pages of his medical and psychiatric records from his service in the military.
McCain would not allow reporters to copy the records. Only a few papers ran details relating to his temper.
The documents, which include the results of annual psychiatric exams after he was released from a North Vietnamese prison in 1973, indicate McCain was not diagnosed with any psychiatric disorder and had adjusted well to his ordeal. McCain’s imprisonment began in October 1967 when he was shot down over Hanoi. However, in response to the question, “What traits do you have that others object to?” McCain answered, “Quick temper.” MORE
If we are realistic and honest, John McCain is too damn old to be President, he still lives in the past, and like many seniors, is set in his ways and will only change course when corporate America tells him to. Mike Huckabee, on the other hand, has been endorsed by James Dobson because of Huckabee’s religious beliefs, and all of us in America have been witness to what occurs when you meld religion with politics - which is exactly why we are in the crisis we face today. Elect a Preacher to the Presidency and the United States is doomed to become a fascist theocracy, exactly what Bush and the GOP are seeking.
As you read the above facts, it’s self-evident that the GOP has nothing to offer in this election cycle except more of the same or worse, so once again, Americans are forced to choose between two Democratic candidates, one that is in bed with corporate America and the other who has no experience or track-record in crisis solving; I know that Obama is extremely popular, however, after what he did in Maine, I see another President that will protect corporate America, not the people:

Blocked Emergency LIHEAP Money For Maine This Winter
AUGUSTA — Barack Obama’s chief economics adviser Austan Goolsbee today boasted that the Obama campaign had helped to prevent emergency heating assistance for low-income families from being included in the just-approved economic stimulus package which is now on its way to President Bush’s desk for signature. An increase in federal low-income heating assistance (known as LIHEAP), Goolsbee pointed out, had been championed by Obama’s opponent, New York Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton. Goolsbee’s remarks came in an interview this morning with Carl Quintanilla of CNBC business news television.(Note: You can view every article as one long page if you sign up as an Advocate Member, or higher).
