Does America think in terms of the idea of a "Wise Ruler"?
The Bible thinks it’s so big a deal that they make a big to-do about Solomon, the wise ruler who knows the human heart so well that he can trick the false mother into showing that it is indeed the other woman’s baby. Solomon the Wise. So basic a phrase that even Tevye puts it into a song (“If I Were a Rich Man”).
If "Wisdom" in a ruler was so big a deal to the Bible, should it not be possible to summon Americans to recognize the importance of that quality in the leaders it chooses? And can anyone say that either Hillary or McCain seem like people for whom wisdom was central to who they wanted to be? Obama has long sought wisdom. And it shows.
Look at the consciousness it would take to shape that speech on race? It understands what it takes to build Wholeness.
