Now that it's becoming visible to ever more Americans that this war was not just a crime, but a blunder as well, the ripeness for such a message is increasing across the political spectrum. Surely, the American people were not only deceived about what was wrong with this war. They were also complicit. But, as the saying has it, failure is an orphan. And the increasingly visible role of deception in leading the United States into this disaster creates the opportunity to mobilize the public against this dark and ruthless leadership.

Right and wrong reasons combine. Little in the affairs of nations is pure.

The key: stripping away all vestiges of these ruler's moral authority

For these reasons, a message that calls for investigation into whether the Bushites defrauded the United States and thus whether they should be impeached seems a better focus for the peace movement. We're talking about possible lying. We're talking about possible crimes. We're talking about the manifestly amoral nature of this leadership-- who, after all, have never given their real reasons for virtually anything they've done, from tax cuts for the rich, to "Healthy Forests" to "Clear Skies."

This is the pattern Americans must see-- the pattern of relentless deception to obscure their lust for power and their greed.

And besides, even if your overwhelmingly primary goal is to get American troops out of Iraq, it is doubtful that there is a more promising path toward that goal than to drain these rulers of all their pretenses to moral authority and, perhaps, to drive them from office.
