When this came to light, and before the Congress committee requested the emails in an investigation, the emails ‘accidentally’ became subject to the delete button.
Again I say, 18 minutes of blank tape = 5,000 emails.
Now, why was the tape blank for 18 minutes?
Because it contained, and everyone should ponder that, it would have incriminated the President and showed his knowledge and complicit involvment in the Watergate Burglary. It was accepted then and went without saying, and it is what brought him down.
Now, 5,000 emails disappeared – why?
Same reason, it would have showed the complicit involvment of at least Vice President Cheney in nefarious dealings, if not President Bush as well.
So why haven’t the Senators taken the walk to the Whitehouse this time?
I believe that it is to do with the difference in technology, after all why should you have to break into an office to look at papers in this electronic communication age?
And this is the crux of my argument – the Watergate Burglary did not reveal anything criminal enough that they could use against the opposition.
In this technological communication age there is no need to break into offices to get at papers. The deleted emails, which I have equated to the 18 minutes of blank tape, contained information that would incriminate the Whitehouse, and by default, would have incriminated lots of others too, including the opposition.
In other words, this time they have something to blackmail the opposition Senators with.
