When is a Depression not a Depression??

So quickly we forget our lessons. Not two months ago gasoline was at $4.30 or higher, and unavailable. Today it is $2 and in abundance. The ridiculous behemoth SUV of last month is again the goal of us all. With the exception today that most can neither qualify for the loan nor afford it.

Government will have to act to save so many households and jobs that are perilously close to being eradicated, and the banks have neither the money nor wish to own any of this. They cannot afford it, nor are there people qualified to assume the numerous foreclosed houses.

But there is additional responsibility that we must expect of government here. We are steadily as a country becoming shareholders of numerous companies where senior echelon is paying themselves tens of millions of dollars. It is a gross dereliction and raping of the treasury. No man nor woman is worth such uncountable sums, especially when under their same watch their company has been driven to the brink. Like it or not, it is a Socialist bent we are facing.

AIG as an example, so recently bailed out, is funding hunting trips abroad and weekend retreats. What sort of fools are we to condone this?

The $700 Billion bail-out will likely turn into Trillion$$, and will undoubtedly create through the roof "Hyper Inflation."Â It will make the early 80's look like a walk in the park.

The greatest issue of all is that those in government have lost site of their role. And regrettably--given how public lives face more and more scrutiny--many, especially those most arguably far more qualified than the current group, choose not to fill these crucial roles.

We need to be very realistic here. The lack of responsibility and carefree spending and debt accumulation has left us all, both nationally and internationally in dire straits, and it will likely take us years to resolve the issues. The layoffs are only just beginning, so it is likely the economic and unemployment scenario will only worsen through the spring of 2009.

There is a new world echelon taking place in Washington. It is sorely needed. It will behoove us all to bind together and help make it work. And in the process, many of us will need to swallow our pride and give up many things we have come to take as our given right.

And we must applaud those leaders, no matter which party who push for alternative fuels, factories and production at home, rather than abroad, and a push to recreate America the Industrialized country and leader of the world that it once was, rather than the debt ridden sloth we are today.Â

One can argue that currently, most governments, Federal, State and Local are effectively bankrupt. The loss of tax dollar income will only make it worse. That will be an additional hurdle.

It is a strong and concise wake-up call to us all.

And in years to come we may very well ascertain that we are today in a Depression of the New Millennium.
