As I further recall, the Taliban leadership, who had a strange relationship with Osama to begin with, told Bush that if the USA delivered evidence of Bin laden’s alleged involvement in the 9/11 attack they would turn him over.

They were probably, though not certainly, lying. But we will never know for sure.

Because instead of providing the evidence, which Bush/GOP/Media repeatedly publicly proclaimed he had, (he never showed us either), Bush went ahead with his plans. Delivering the evidence would have forced the Taliban onto the world stage, where their defiance of the law, and alliance with Osama, would have been clear. And thus the justification and international will for invasion would have been secured.

Bush disdained any other solution, and just invaded Afghanistan inflicting countless civilian casualties (don’t count votes in Florida or civilian deaths in Afghanistan); a very serious mass homicide of innocent human beings. And thus began the US taxpayer-financed-half-trillion+interest $ war that seven years later drags on with no apparent clear justification, purpose or objective.

So everybody’s fighting a war, but for what? nobody can say. And no one can say what a USA/NATO “victory” would be. I suppose the absolute genocide and extermination of all Afghanis and perhaps Muslims would fill the “final solution” bill. And though that might be on the Bush/GOP options agenda, I doubt it would be anywhere on NATO’s to-do list.

What’s really sad is that for all this stuff….you know….stuff ….like

bombing numerous population centers,

killing,

maiming,

displacing,

detaining,

torturing

and otherwise abusing the human rights of tens of millions of people…..jeeez!...(Its a good thing for Bush and his GOP comrades that he disdained the International Criminal Court huh?)….

Bush pursuing Bin laden turned out to be hog-wash.
