True Believers

People are herded into believing that to ask for a society that works for all the people is wrong and dangerous--even sinful. People are herded into believing that they are no longer worthy of trust and respect. People are herded into believing that are only as good as what they can do for the ruling elite. People are herded into believing that if they simply 'believe' in the system then all will be well with themselves and their world.

People are herded into being true believers in a system that doesn't even remotely resemble the fantasies and propaganda programmed into them by the ruling elite.

But usually, no matter how much the true believers are used and abused, they will never give up their 'true' beliefs. Sure they will often admit they don't like not having healthcare, a job, justice, and workable society but they will never give up on the notion that people don't deserve to have these things. They will continually hold to the twisted notion that they must seriously suffer so the very few can have it all. After all, that is the American way of freedom, and God wouldn't want it any other way.

Worse, the true believer not only allows so much suffering for himself, they limit the rest of society from breaking out of the chains of abusive serfdom. In fact, the true believers suspiciously condemn any other person that has the ability to reason and to examine reality.

The true believers we see in religion and spirituality serve as a good example of how debilitating and inhibiting irrationality is. But we need to look beyond religion and see how debilitating and inhibiting the true believers' irrationality is for the rest of society.

In short when we forsake reason, we suffer for good reason.
