While many see this diagram as in an "either-or" relationship with the Illuminati, it doesn't need to be. Indeed, the transcendent eye could function not as a top-down ruler but as a transcendent consciousness that oversees the relationships of the parts to the whole.
For example, James Lovelock's Gaia Hypothesis states that the Earth functions as a single organism where each part serves in the healthy functioning of the Earth as a whole (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis).
As the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and neurological systems function as a united whole within the human body for the sake of survival, then the various parts of the Earth function together for the sake of the planet's functioning.
The difference between this understanding of the overseeing Eye and that of the Illuminati is that the Eye is not separate from the functioning whole just as a conductor is not separate from an orchestra. Indeed, if the orchestra became angry, it could go on strike and leave the conductor with his hands in the air from his frustrations of not being able to entertain. In other words, the conductor is dependent on the orchestra for his work to be complete. There is NO separation of the base from the apex as presented in the Illuminate symbol. As such, it could be said that the Wall Street Executives are dependent on us for their livelihood. If we choose to stop playing, the Executive Class will collapse. It doesn't matter if we are a French Horn player, a Bass player, or even a Trumpet. We are all inherent in and necessary for the beautiful harmony of the symphony.
Furthermore, it may the Eye functions as a metaphor for a more transcendent consciousness than as a controlling despot. Thus, when Martin Luther King went to the mountaintop, he saw the unity of the black boy and white girl. Just so, when we go to the mountaintop, or when the Apollo Astronauts saw the Earth from afar, a major insight about life takes place. That insight given to the Astronauts, and the one you too will receive, is inherent in the meaning of the term uni-verse. In the one is many and in the many one.
Seen from this point of view, the "us vs them" mentality is subsumed under a greater "us and them." We are all in this together. Not just as people. But as people functioning within a whole Earth composed of life that is infinite in variety. This knowledge thus reveals religion in its original French-verb definition, to connect. Then, when you see that bigger picture, you like Martin Luther King will be able to see the Unity behind the infinite variety of landforms, animals, plants etc. inherent on this planet and in this universe.
