As security declines on the African continent it is vital that security ties between the West and stable nations such as Mauritania continue to strengthen and grow. In light of the recent attacks in Beirut and Paris there is a renewed global commitment to fighting ISIS and its multifarious factions. While the focus of this commitment is still on Syria, the scope of the conflict will inevitably expand, and when it does, allies like Mauritania will prove essential.
