We never foresaw as a nation that our great country would go bankrupt, yet it did as evident in the Wall Street crash which happened this past September. If America is a battle ship, I would say to President Bush, “You sank our battle ship” Even before that fateful day, millions of Americans began to lose their jobs, their homes and their dreams and who knows when it will end and Bush helped to create this great carnage upon this nation. In the Great Depression, the slogan was, “Brother, can you spare a dime?” Well today’s slogan would be, “Brother, can you spare ten-bucks?” and even that does not go a long way.
Thankfully, on Election Day, America stood up and said, “Enough!” in electing President-elect Barack Obama who in a few short days will become our 44th President of the United States and to he and his team, all I will say is, “God’s speed and let the wind be at your back.” I am sure once he is sworn in the mantle of the presidency will rest heavily on his shoulders as he tries to undo the mess of these past eight years. I want next Tuesday to come as fast as I wanted Christmas to come as a child. I want as my present to be the present of democracy. In his confirmation hearings today, Eric Holder blatantly stated that water boarding is torture. What a nice change from these past eight years.
In listening to President George W. Bush’s farewell speech to the nation tonight, I would have loved to have heard some candor coming from him, but none was forthcoming. The two words, I would have loved to hear coming from his mouth was, “I’m sorry.” But, it never came. Then again, I was not expecting it from a sociopath and a narcissist.
To President George W. Bush, while you have done immense damage to this nation, there is one thing you have not damaged and that is the spirit of a people. Our spirits are still intact as we await the swearing in ceremony of our new president who will then be, President Barack Obama and his second in command, Vice President Joe Biden.
As we throw off the shackles of these past eight years, let us say with one voice, let freedom ring.
To President George W. Bush, goodbye and good riddance. Our long national nightmare is almost over and thank God for that!
