[* "Cognitive dissonance"--also in my very layman's terms--is what happens when our brains are dealing with contradictory beliefs. Through the wonders of its adaptive capabilities, it filters the information creating the conflict in order to remove the problem and restore a sense of "balance" and certainty.]

Is it wise to ignore these factors and continue to do more of what we've been doing so as to avoid being challenged in our beliefs and attitudes? What will we gain?

Perhaps the more important question: What will we lose?

Facts may be inconvenient; they may even suck! But when we're dealing with matters of significance which affect millions of us, it might be wise to base our discussions and decisions on those pesky annoyances. The truth--reality--matters.
