This does not mean that I think that they are a group without problems that need to be urgently addressed. It just means that they are not particularly different from either the Hindus or the Muslims in that respect. At the end of the day, people have to validate themselves through personal achievements. This tendency to fall back on community or one's social group is a sign of stupidity and primitivism. Individual identity is about individuals and not groups.
The best way that the concerns, which are more like fears, of prominent Christians such as Julio Ribeiro and Admiral Sushil Kumar can be addressed is to look into the emotional component of their statements, which perhaps is representative of how the community feels as a whole. At the end of the day, I am certain that they would feel the same way as the late Archbishop Arulappa, in declaring themselves as Indian by birth in terms of where they belong, Hindu by culture in terms of sensibility, and Christian in faith by virtue of belief.
