We may or may not achieve
passage of the Fair Elections Now Act in Congress this
year. There are powerful interests arrayed against any
change. But we should use every opportunity - such as the
hearings next week - to build awareness among our lawmakers and
to demonstrate citizen support for these reforms. And we
should use the opportunity to reach out to neighbors, co-workers
and friends in other organizations, that we can bring about the
democracy we seek - if we work for it.
