This has all been understandably distressing and heartbreaking for most of us to live through. But when we can recognize who's behind it and why, and when we have the clarity of truth and information, then we can be empowered to find a way to move forward together. There are many more of us who believe in a robust, multiracial democracy with all of the freedoms that we hold dear, than there are those who do not. I know this because I was an eyewitness to it exactly seven years ago. We all witnessed what people power can do! Nothing could stop us then, and nothing can stop us now, as long as we have the collective will. And for now, we have a choice.

We can no longer afford to pretend that this is not happening or live in denial. In 2024, this most crucial election year, we must wake up from our collective coma, stand up, and fight for the country we want and deserve. Let's try to avoid propaganda as much as possible and inform ourselves of the truth as much as we can. Some credible news sources to follow include HuffPost, The Guardian, The Intercept, and Democracy Now. Some brilliant, well-informed writers, columnists and opinion writing include OpEdNews, Robert Reich, Thom Hartmann, Will Bunch, and The Lever.

As an artist and a busy mom, I understand well how wrapped up in our lives that we can get. But the stakes in this election couldn't be any higher than if they were on top of the Freedom Tower. Besides staying informed, we should do our best to get active in whatever way we can this year, even if it's just once a week. Here are some great groups and organizations to get involved with Indivisible Project, Daily Kos, Color Of Change, People Power United, or you can find others that you align with here. Join social groups with your friends, or start your own group and make new ones! Put your focus on a cause that resonates best with you.

And we absolutely must get out and vote! Get your family, friends, and neighbors to vote. Sitting out the next election is a vote against democracy, and you may not get another chance to save it. Double-check your registration here, as there have been many efforts, especially in red states to purge voters from the rolls.

Arm in arm as fellow Americans once again, we can begin to stand up to the bullies now, show them exactly who we are, and what we are made of.

"This is not rhetorical, academic or hypothetical. Whether democracy is still America's sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time. That's what the 2024 election is all about." - President Joe Biden, Valley Forge, PA, January 5, 2024
