With a defacto quid pro "I'll support your Ukraine takeover Vlad and you support my Taiwan takeover" wink and a nod agreement, Xi took and bought the Putin fraud pitch of a quick 48-72 hour blitzkrieg takeover of Kyiv followed by Ukrainians nationwide spilling into the streets with flowers and cheers to the "liberating Russians" and Putin our long awaited Dear Leader. What he is getting is quite the opposite.
Instead of a Putin promised "Shock and Awe", Xi is seeing he bought a bumbling/genocidal Ukrainian people killing "Shock and Yawn" which quickly moved to "Creep and Stall" to now "Stop and Die" (ie Target...with Ukraine becoming a Russian tank graveyard), and a growing feeling of "We (China) made a really terrible bet...How Do We Stop Being a Part of This (growing by the day) Putin PR Disaster".
What was supposed to be a quick power play, with the Ukrainian people singing and throwing flowers welcoming Russian troops (as Putin too told (lied) his own troops before the invasion) is now evolving to not just a "Groznification" of one city, but the "Groznification" of an entire country. See pic below of Grozny in early 2000 after Putin finished burning it to the ground...and what every major Ukrainian city will ultimately look like.
Putin has shifted from waltzing in to burning the entire country down, an across the board Sherman-esque scorched earth spirit crushing assault on the people and infrastructure of Ukraine.
The vaunted mighty Russian military now unmasked and stunningly exposed as a complete, total and unequivocal phony fraud. Its leadership, strategy, tactics, supply lines, men (demoralized and desertions mounting) and material all TOTAL CRAP (INCOMPETENT), getting totally embarrassed and its ass undeniably kicked by an on paper anyway, grossly outgunned and outmanned underdog Ukrainian military adversary and its rock steady "Churchill-ian" civilian leadership; the latter combo too winning the hearts and minds of all Ukrainians and all the world, while Putin fades to isolated global murdering genocidal "ONE MAN's WAR" pariah.
Putin planned for a 48-72 hour blitz to Kyiv, leaving his forces totally blindsided in every respect for an unplanned for lengthy stale mate siege and counter attack/insurgency. Unprepared and thus falling prey to a defacto evolving and Ukrainian killer "rope a dope chew 'em up" strategy. Putin's supply lines not prepared at all for this "siege"; his forces rapidly running out of food and fuel, demoralized, deserting and with an unplanned need to now go back to Mother Russia and seek/conscript fresh (fodder) recruits to replace his front line dysfunction/losses.
