Conservative New York Times columnist Ross Douthat: “He needs to make a case that he can be a pragmatist'; pragmatic strategies to win Democratic nomination and presidency. Ted Kennedy held progressive political views but worked with conservatives for the common good. Sanders is an Independent who has demonstrated that he can work with Democrats, as co-sponsor of invoking the 1973 War Powers Resolution, to pass both houses. Douthat: “As mayor of Burlington he was a pragmatic mayor who worked with Republicans on city governance; he ‘talked about political ideals as something he believed in, but he separated that idealism from his practical legislative work, which was grounded in vote counts.’”
Sanders must get away from capitalist-socialist discussions; he is someone who cares for all Americans, and cares for their economic and environmental conditions.
