Scientists at the United Nations' intergovernmental body focusing on biodiversity sounded alarms earlier this month with a report on the potential extinction of one million species—but few heard their calls, according to a German newspaper report. Title says it all.

Because most of us live in cities and spend our time in artificial environments, it is easy for us to ignore the fact that our very existence is supported by a global ecosystem.  No, we can't turn the earth into a giant farm to support humans.  We don't know how.

Yes, it's puzzling that the Sixth Extinction gets so little play, in comparison with CO2 warming, which so many people write about as an existential threat. Global warming is actually a part of the big picture that is much more ominous. This is Charles Eisenstein's book on the subject.
