If an asteroid were ever to be come hurtling towards Earth, what would be the plan to stop it from impacting the planet? That's the question NASA and its partners, including the European Space Agency and the U.S.'s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), are gathering at the 2019 Planetary

Defense Conference in early May to investigate.

I'm used to being dismissed like some cursed oracle; maybe you'll believe these guys? Fact is, understanding this quest and all that it implies is understanding the whole story of Humanity.

Here we are, dukes up, as it were; all by way of hunting weapons that evolved into weapons of war, elegant but clearly overkill, and now we're back to the hunt; a celestial hunt to get the only enemy we ever really had. If you don't think that's neat, think again.

We are not some interloping sleazeball species here to destroy the Earth. We're extraordinary inventions of Nature out to preserve her Garden of Magic, and we are here to save Earth. And we shall. That's the significance of "Life Everlasting, Amen." Not your scrawny little fifteen minutes; ALL LIFE. So there.

"One can't be objective if their salary depends on it" NASA and Co are crazed about a self imposed emergency.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evinence. You have yet to offer any.

Evidence : Aggression large scale, repudiated by all moral oaths, but prevalent.

Nuclear Proliferation, in spite of its uselessness as either energy source or weapons. Overpopulation when we could well establish a comfortable ratio of people to planet. Making sense of a world at war to a host of fresh faced primary students drove me to rationalize these ironies.

They only make sense when the subject of 'enemies' came up, and the only significant one is of course total annihilation by meteor; well-advertised you must agree, even back when science was magic. Then it all makes sense.

But if you haven't caught on by now, I don't know if it's worth the effort.

I see us as operatives, as clueless as earthworms and as essential. It is being proven every day that we're bound to solve this conundrum, we are driven to explore and take arms against the mindless pinball machine in which we float, and we will not take Armageddon lying down.

Why, when it's happening all around us, do the two of you continue to bite my ankles? I didn't construct this, I just noticed the mechanics of it all. We've engaged with three of them already like cats playing with mice.. And somehow you begrudge humanity this tool, when it's the only one that counts? The entire mute, clueless planet is our garden, and we're the only ones who can save it.

Isn't that grand? Unfortunately, it's not the end of the story.

Our Sun also has a "sell by" date, and then we're going to be in charge, cum Noah, with dodging that bullet. By then, we'll have nailed one of "My Father's Many Mansions" as our new home, and getting all this Life coded ("In the beginning was the word") and we'll be off with our cargo of 3-D printers and DNA and start all over again!
