Trump himself – continue to fuel false beliefs of widespread election fraud. Embrace of the “Big Lie” that Trump really won the election has become an article of faith for many Republican politicians.

It is also widely believed by conservative Americans; in an October, 2021 poll, 60% of Republicans said the 2020 presidential election results should definitely or probably be overturned.

This creates a potentially dangerous situation for the United States. Acceptance of electoral defeat, something political scientists call “loser’s consent,” is essential for stability and order in democracies..

For the first time in American history, the losing candidate refused to concede the election and rather than dismissing him as a sore loser, a startling number of Americans have followed Donald Trump down his conspiratorial rabbit hole. #Coup. #KeyNumbers.

#DestroyDemocracy 'from within' at 4:26 minutes. #LastStand.

"We're going to walk down Pennsylvania Ave", Trump willfully incites his supporters on January 6th,

#VisualForensics

except, of course, Trump never shows up to personally lead his supporters and followers into the Halls of Congress looking for Speaker Pelosi and Vice President Pence - chanting 'Hang Pence' - to halt the certification of Joe Biden's presidential 2020 election victory.

#VisualInvestigations

Instead, this president apparently remains in the White House watching on TV his inspired riot on the Capitol and attack on democracy unfold before his eyes - not ordering any halt to his inspired riot and attack on democracy and never calling out the National Guard in a timely manner to protect and defend the Capitol Building and Congress in Session, and apparently savoring each and every minute of his "Slow-Motion Coup" - the #MalignantNarcissist.

US elections have been stolen throughout my entire life. Rather than fix the problem, laws like HAVA were passed which just further privatized the election process and set up another siphon through which the Oligarchy can steal America's wealth. The "For the Peoples Act" over which the Democrats are threatening to abolish the Filibuster, sounds to me like another empty promise. How ironic that a government that is demanding IDs for everyone in the face of the pandemic, is still so set against IDs for voting. Why not give in and just make sure everyone has an ID?

Like laws on abortion, this anemic attempt to change "Citizens United" is too little too late and thus a fraud to be used as a cudgel to promote "Vote Blue No Matter Who". The Republicans will once again, be identified as the Root of all Evil while both parties give the Pentagon another Trillion Dollars to kill poor people.

Americans have allowed themselves to believe in the lie of the two-party system which, in turn, has fostered this "us against them" mentality. Looking back at 2016, it seems obvious to me that Hillary was "this close" to doing exactly what Trump did in 2020. Surely Russiagate is merely a sample of the hardly covert campaign against Trump waged by the Democrats. Of course, there was no single demon to rail against as this article does.

So Lance, I want to gently chastise you for passing on this thinly veiled attack. Yes, the premise is true, I am not at all arguing against a "sore loser effect", but the target of the article is Trump and Trump alone.

I don't know what to do about it. Maybe listen to the People's Party live event on the upcoming general strike. Which I've only heard mentioned on Reddit, in several subs looking like this. I note that there have been 3 previous calls for a general strike that went absolutely no where.

For sure, I'm not voting Red or Blue. Hopefully I won't fall for another astro-turf campaign like the DSA and save my money to deal with the coming collapse of the Empire.

I'm a little confused. I think I remember, after Trump was elected, the streets filled with people chanting, "Not my president!" A duly elected president.

I remember Hilary in interviews talking about how disheartening it was, at the last minute to have the election "stolen" from her.

I remember the Russian Hoax with the mainstream media in collusion, endlessly going on about "chaos at the white house" "the walls closing in" "the noose tightening"

The Steele Dossier, paid for by the Clinton campaign. I remember Adam Schiff fabricating Trump's conversation with the Ukraine president and him waving blank papers in the air claiming they contained ironclad proof of Russian Collusion.

This was all a huge fabrication discrediting the integrity of the office of the president, a coherent propaganda stream backed by the media which dwarfs the activity of the Trump side. They are advancing, following the law, petitioning the courts and election committees.

They are not getting anywhere, but compare their activity to the tsunami of unsupported inferences, and empty accusations that buried the Trump presidency unrelentingly for four years. What makes the "big lie" believable, in the absence of clear proof, is what the Democrats were willing to do in the last election.

Rejecting Election Results Can Destabilize Democracy and Drive Terrorism, my ass.

Remember also the constant "impeachment" scams by the house to attempt to undermine/remove the elected President. Democrats were talking impeachment before President Trump was even sworn in.

Also, to this day there are many that refuse to accept the election of George Bush in 2000.

The far left is in no position to cast the first stone.

Rejecting Election Results Can Destabilize Democracy and Drive Terrorism, my ass.

I was in total agreement with you until this last sentence.

The Oligarchy is using the argument about how our elections have been and will be run to push their divergent agendas. Listening to another day of hand-wringing by NPR pundits who are escalating their demands of Biden and Attorney General Garland to now actually prosecute Trump for this "riot". Until, and unless the Oligarchy itself is called to account and perhaps even destroyed, they will continue to incite discontent among all Americans.

A couple of articles on the "insurgency" by Glenn Greenwald and Michael Tracy which expand on your point, but still fail to talk about the Oligarchy.

I agree, I just thought the lack of self awareness and projection in that headline was ridiculous. Not that the entire spectacle of modern governance isn't monkeys at the opera.

I had no doubt that was what you meant. I didn't want others to get the wrong idea.

As an aside, perhaps orthogonal, a "friend" sent out a mass mailing praising Inslee's plan to prosecute people for lying. It was obviously about Trump, but I played ignorant and asked who was going to be the arbiter of what was a lie and what was the truth. The answer came back (from another "friend") "The Courts".

I think about Merrick Garland and Kavanaugh being nominated for the supreme court. I want to laugh, but it is too serious to do that.

I feel like Princess Leia, "Help us Obi Wan, you are our only hope."

Hitler rose to power because he told a Big Lie. Millions of people believed that Big Lie because they held more sinister beliefs - millions more likely didn't believe it but weren't willing to denounce it as an outright lie at the time.

The same dynamic is true regarding Donald Trump's claim that Joe Biden stole the election from him. It is a Big Lie being embraced to advance a racist, anti-democratic agenda. #AspiringDictator.

But Lance... is it really a "Big Lie" or just pointing out what many of us believe.

The Voting Rights bill that Biden is pushing is more to counter the laws the Republicans have enacted to ensure Democrats will win than for any honest attempt to help more people vote.

I was listening to a Moderate Rebels podcast that outlined voting registration in Nicaragua and the process they go through to count the vote. The process in the USA is so random that I have no doubt every Presidential election since 2000 has been rigged.

Yes, if Trump had initially fully accepted Biden's 2020 Presidential Election victory and fully supported 'a peaceful transfer of power' to Biden on Inauguration Day January 20th, 2021, then that's what you would 'believe', as well.

Yes, surely, if Trump had won the 2020 Presidential Election on November 3rd and Biden had 'raised a ruckus' about Trump's win and Trump's congressional certification vote by congress on January 6, 2021, then surely Trump would have portrayed Biden as 'a traitor to democracy' for questioning a legitimate and honest election - 'clean' from the start.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it" - Joseph Goebbels. Trump, over and over again, with his 'election was stolen' from him, his 'Big Lie', seems to have relied on the words of Goebbel, in his attempt to 'stay in office' and 'cling to presidential power' - an #AmericanTragedy.

Just to be clear, I would not change my beliefs about the American Electoral system based on who won. I do agree that had Trump won, Biden would play sore loser just like Hillary did. But that doesn't mean I personally would believe either one of them. The history of shadowy events during our nation's elections is long.

The laws the Republicans are passing at the State and Local level are to make "elections safer".

The laws the Democrats are trying to pass in congress are to make "elections safer."

The question is, "How does one define 'safer'?"
