Copyrighted Image? DMCA | There's been all kind of disappointment with modern democracy, since its beginnings in the 18th Century. That disappointment today is expressed in numerous articles and comments here at OpEdNews. Libertarians have their take it - that markets should replace democratic processes. Advocates of civil liberties have their take on the problems - that our treasonous leaders should be ... well, let's just say, restrained. Democratic partisans suggest that we need to reverse the SCOTUS 'money talks' dogma of $$$=speech. We also hear from a few who want something that they call "direct democracy" - democracy that somehow short-circuits the whole hierarchy where we, the voters, are supposed to be in charge, but it never seems work that way! It's interesting that this same situation exists even in a country like France, where elections are totally publicly financed! Say what? |
